Folks we got almost a hurricane here and this is another first if they officially classify it.

It looks like a hurricane

Just check the satellite image here and see that eye forming http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... IR4/20.jpg. What a sight. The second tropical storm of December. The last time we had two tropical storms in December was way back in 1887. Just amazing stuff.

Hurricane Peter? Wow! The last time I recall a hurricane existing in the Atlantic on December 9th was....well....ummm....let's see here....maybe.... NEVER? :eek:

Well, it's not unprecedented, but it's certainly very rare.

Lili was a hurricane from Dec. 20-23 in 1984. And there was "Alice 2" in late 1954/early 1955.

... and what became Hurricane Lili was a Tropical Depression and Tropical Storm from December 12th to December 19th. :)

Yep Jim forecaster Avila said the same thing that this system may have been a hurricane earlier today!
