The question is no longer how long will Peter last, but how strong was Tropical Storm Peter at his peak intensity? Offically 70 mph and 990 MB. I do think that if Hurricane Danny was 75 mph with 1000 MB pressure (pressures were high in that area) and had a poor eye, Peter was a hurricane. It was full of good deep convective banding, and some outflow. But the core came together VERY quickly and it is still a very well defined cloud swirl, INFACT is Peter trying to make a comeback on the SE quad?:

Either way, I do think Odette peaked at 70 mph at landfall, and that at his peak he was a 75 mph hurricane with 989 mb pressure. One thing I am sure of is NEVER SAY NEVER FOR ANY SEASON!

Maybe for an hour or two it was a hurricane but they may make an upgrade after post anaylisis if they find data that may support a hurricane in a brief stage later on in the preliminary report as they did with Erika so time will tell.

I'm not even sure why he threw Odette in at the end there anyway. There isn't much of anything to support that Odette was a hurricane.

Peter never made landfall. Clearly, at the end he WAS talking about Odette.

In the Discussion by the NHC on December 9 at 4 PM EST the NHC said.

<B>PETER CONTINUES TO BE FAIRLY WELL-ORGANIZED ON SATELLITE IMAGERY

So in view of this i would not be suprised in the slightest if Peter is upgraded to Hurricane strength in post analysis.

Just like Claudette was upgraded to 90 mph from 80 mph, and Erika from 70 to 75 mph.

Erika looked like a hurricane at alndfall even though she began to shrink, winds were offically 75 mph:

The Hurricane Research Division has posted observed wind field analysis maps for Odette. Here's when Odette was at peak intensity (56kts) about 18 hours before landfall:

But at landfall, peak winds had dropped to 42kts:

Oh, and I think that Peter may be upgraded to a hurricane, but this will have to be done on satellite analysis only. Not sure if the NHC would do that without any other data, but it's possible.
