...WINTER WEATHER POSSIBLE AGAIN SUNDAY...

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHEAST FROM THE GULF OF
MEXICO THIS WEEKEND. THE ASSOCIATED LOW CENTER SHOULD MOVE OFF THE
VIRGINIA CAPES SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN INTENSIFY AS IT HEADS
NORTHEASTWARD.

AT THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATON...THE DIVIDING LINE BETWEEN RAIN AND
SHOW SHOULD BE LOCATED ACROSS EXTREME SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY...SOUTHERN
DELAWARE AND THE EASTERN SHORE OF MARYLAND.

THIS MEANS THAT THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND
SUNDAY MORNING SHOULD BE IN THE FORM OF SNOW NORTH AND WEST OF
WILMINGTON DELAWARE AND PHILADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA. TO THE SOUTH AND
EAST...THE PRECIPITATION COULD BEGIN AS SNOW OR A MIX OR RAIN AND
SNOW.

WARMER AIR IS FORECAST TO HEAD NORTH AND WEST INTO SOUTHEAST
PENNSYLVANIA AND CENTRAL NEW JERSEY ALLOWING ANY PRECIPITATION THAT
FALLS TO CHANGE TO RAIN.

AT THIS TIME THERE IS STILL MUCH UNCERTAINTY AS TO THE EVOLUTION AND
TRACK OF THIS STORM SYSTEM. HOWEVER...ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE AND SNOW
ARE POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY TO THE NORTH AND WEST OF PHILADELPHIA.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
UPDATES.

I read that also, and was happy to see the statement. It is starting to look better for some snow in the PHL area. The question is how much? RNS looks to be getting a solid grasp on this storm once again.

Okay, I'll bite SF...

What does RNS stand for???

It is good to see that Mt. Holly is at least addressing the possibility of a storm coming our way. They never really did that with the other storm this far out.

RNS is the MET who has been posting his views on storms and weather on thsi board. I would say it is positive the MY Holly is talking about the storm.

(The Mount Holly/Philadelphia) RNS initials of the Mt. Holly forecaster, maybe ...

Although the staff at the Mount Holly WFO doesn't reflect anyone fitting the description based on initials ... soooo, I don't know ...

Oh, okay. I didn't notice the initals at the bottom of the forecast. I thought you were referring to an abbreviated title or something.

I know that RNS is from around my way - could it be??? That also maybe why he defended Mt. Holly in an earlier post I made criticizing their forecast on the last storm.

You got it all confused. I was meaning to say that MT Holly, is now seeing a chance of winter prcip and snow.

I mentioned the fact that RNS from Storm2k has had this in his forecast for some time. He has said PHL will see some snow.

The newest weather statement from MT Holly....I'm hoping for the ETA to pan out, as I have to go up to Philly today and return on Sunday.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION - CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ
330 AM EST FRI DEC 12 2003

DEEP LOW PRES SYS THAT BROUGHT HEAVY RAIN TO THE FA NOW LOCATED IN
NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND AND MOVING NE AWAY FM THE REGION. WIND STILL A
LITTLE GUSTY OVER FA FM BACK SIDE OF STORM. NEXT SYS GETTING ITSELF
TOGETHER IN TX...SOAKING UP THE MOISTURE FM THE GULF OF MEXICO. THIS
STORM PROGGED TO MOVE ALONG THE GULF COAST THEN TURN NE AND MOVE UP
THE EAST COAST...STRENGTHENING OFF THE DELMARVA. THE STORM POSES A
WINTRY WEATHER THREAT TO THE FA. A WINTER WEATHER OUTLOOK SPECIAL
WEATHER STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED DISCUSSING THE THREAT...WITH
GRAPHICS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING FM OUR HOME PAGE BY CLICKING ON
EXPERIMENTAL FORECAST IMAGES.

A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE PATH OF THE STORM COULD CHANGE THE EXPECTED
WEATHER. CURRENTLY...BETWEEN ONE HALF AND ONE INCH OF LIQUID
EQUIVALENT IS LIKELY WITH THIS SYSTEM. MORE SNOW IS EXPECTED NORTH
AND WEST OF PHILADELPHIA...WITH A MIX OR CHANGE TO RAIN EAST TO
SOUTH. IF THE STORM TRACKS A LITTLE FURTHER AWAY FROM THE
COAST...MORE SNOW IS LIKELY EVERYWHERE. ALSO...THE THREAT OF
FREEZING RAIN CANNOT BE DISMISSED WITH THIS SYSTEM. MODEL DATA
INDICATE WARM AIR MOVING IN ALOFT. HOWEVER...THE MODELS ALSO SUGGEST
THAT DEW POINTS WILL REMAIN WELL BELOW FREEZING DURING THE EVENT.
THIS GIVES THE POSSIBILITY THAT TEMPERATURES COULD FALL BELOW
FREEZING UPON THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION AND STAY THERE...NOT
RECOVERING ABOVE FREEZING UNTIL THE PRECIPITATION HAS ENDED.

ON THE MARINE...GALES REMAIN OVR THE OCEAN N OF LITTLE EGG INLET
UNTIL GUSTINESS DROPS DOWN A BIT.

It is still up in the air. I think we will atleast see a few inches of snow in the PHL area.

I like the wording of the most recent statement from Mt. Holly. I still think there is a decent chance that precip never goes to all rain in my area.
