The US military is only admitting that the raid in Tikrit at 3 PM Baghdad time was targeting Saddam; however, Reuters and the Iranian News Agency broke the story 3 hours ago, and there WILL be an "official press conference" from CENTCOM at 7 AM this morning.

Bret Baier of FoxNews states that several US sources "believe that the US has captured Saddam". He was reportedly found in the basement of a building in Tikrit, his home town.

More as it develops...stay tuned!!!! :D    :) :-? :larrow:

Latest breaking news...We got Saddam ALIVE, and are checking his ID through DNA testing.

The new Task Force 21, along with the 4th ID and local informants, resulted in the raid in which he was captured. Nothing further on Saddam's condition, but the Iraqi Governing Council reports that he is alive, and he may have been involved in a gun battle (unconfirmed).

Hussein had grown a long, gray beard and was underweight, according to Rita Cisby of FoxNews, who spoke to government siources. He was not apparently injured, and he may be under questioning at this time.

In the meantime, the word's spread all over Iraq; spontaneous celebrations have broken out all over the country! :D

I was just listening to Rita Cosby as well. The raid happened approximately 12 hours ago.

Because he lost a lot of weight and grew a long beard, they said he wasn't easily recognizable.

No resistance from Saddam when he was surprised in a basement in a house. Now we await the press conference at 7 AM EST for more details on how the raid was conducted but there was a tip from the locals to go to that house.

OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED the capture of Saddam at the news conference as Paul Bremer's first words were WE GOT HIM !!!!!.This will boost the moral of the US troops and also the president will go up in popularity.I wonder what Paolo has to say about this great news.

Yes, saw the initial news conference with Bremer. :D The local Iraqis in
the meeting were going nuts jumping up and down in the briefing as they
were showing the tape of Saddam being examined by coalition doctors.
He dug a hole in the basement to try to hide further but they found him
anway.

600 troops including the Army, Special Forces and a bunch of Intel people
decended on a farmhouse about 12 hours ago; they found over
$750,000 U.S. dollars with him.

Merry Christmas!! :ggreen: :ggreen: :ggreen: :ggreen: :ggreen:

He's OUTTAHERE :1:

I almost cracked up when I saw Saddam being checked over by one of our MDs...he looked like ZZ Top on Prozac, and the reaction of the Iraqis in the press corps audience said it all...VERY agitated, happy... :D

But, as I heard the Italian press speak, I was reminded of Paolo....utterly CLUELESS.

Now the next big prize will be the capture or killing of OSAMA.But that operation will not be as easy as this one was because osama has many bodyguards around but eventually he will be caught.
