Rarely do I get serious and I have held off on replying to this thread, but now feel compelled to do so. Deb, I went through something very similar to you but my ex was addicted to alcohol. I left him after two stints in rehab, one accident that involved him causing a woman to miscarry at 6 months, and more bruises and cracked bones than I care to admit to. Why did it take me so long? Who knows, but I guess I always thought I could somehow help him to get better, that if I stayed around long enough, etc. The "experts" say that the addicted person has to reach bottom before they can crawl back out. Some make out, some don't. My ex didn't. He finally drank himself to death-he suffered a seizure, fell through a glass table top and bled to death....ALONE....34 days after our divorce was final. He would have continued to drink whether I stayed or not and although leaving him was the hardest thing I have ever done, staying with him was by far the stupidest. You are in for a long haul, with alot of bumps, but always know in your heart that YOU are the most important person and that your health and mental sanity should remain your top priority. You have my constant prayers as well as those of all of your friends on this board.
