Not so stupid Question... well you decide
What's with stores offering rebates on so many products, or manufacturers rebates that bring the price to almost free. Is this some way to make their sales look good and then having write-offs too. I don't know, do any of you know or wonder too?

Company's offer rebates to help boot sales, to get your rebat you must send the rebate in before a it expires, and if you do send it in on time it can take up to 6 months before you receive it. also look at the rebate, see how much it is for and if there is any hidden catches to it, some have a catch to getting it.

The only catch on most of these is the stamp that I have to put on the envelope. And they may be boosting sales for numbers purposes, but htey are losing $$. IF they sell an item to a store for $4.00, the store in turn re-sells the item for $10, the rebate certificate is good for $10.00, the manufacturer just lost $6 on the transaction.

Take a look at the Office Max ad you will see products that they promote "free after rebate." they give you the rebate slips the extra copy of the sales slip, all you need is the upc code and an envelope. If they are trying to fool investors into thinking sales are good, that will only work for a short time before they catch on. But in the mean time I'll keep getting free cd's, speakers, modems, tool kits, 2way radios, and other things.

It was a Compaq, monitor, printer, included. paid $425 after rebates. And yes I got the rebates back already.

You have to be very careful, and read the fine print on the rebate agreements. When I got my new comp last year, they offered a $500 rebate, BUT you had to sign up for certain services, like MSN, Norton, etc. Plus the company (Compaq) took forever to send me the rebate, I had to send 2 more copies of the receipt in. It took over a year for me to get my rebate, and that was after many phone calls and screaming matches.
