FORT WORTH, Texas - Walking was difficult for Penny Lane Sanderson, who had pins in her legs, the consequence of a wreck more than a year ago, friends say.
Unable to work, the 29-year-old mother went on welfare to support her family. When she began having seizures recently, she sent her three children to be cared for temporarily by relatives and friends.
"She inspired me," neighbor Crystal Garcia said. "She's lived a hard, hard life. She would always bring me up because she had such a positive outlook."
Early Monday morning, combustibles too close to a space heater started a fire in Sanderson's home in the 900 block of Sharondale Street, firefighters said.
