Weather Extremes Across U.S.
December 16, 2003

The coldest spot on Tuesday morning
was a WeatherBug live sensor in
Woodland Park, Colorado (located at
8000 feet elevation south of Denver)
with 7 below zero Fahrenheit.

The cold air over the central Rockies
was flowing in behind a strong storm in
the Plains, though the air mass was not
particularly cold for this time of year.
The warmest location on Monday was a
WeatherBug live sensor in Pleasanton
in south Texas with 79 degrees. This
was related to a warm southerly flow off
the Gulf of Mexico ahead of the same
Plains storm.

The tides will turn somewhat on
Tuesday, however, as the Plains storm
moves toward the Great Lakes and
sends a sharp cold front through Texas.

South Florida will take over as the
warm spot with temperatures
approaching 80 in some areas.
Meanwhile, very cold air lodged in
central Canada will eject into the upper
Mississippi Valley by Tuesday night
while a ridge of high pressure builds
into the west and brings much warmer
air to the central Rockies.

Temperatures in northern Minnesota
are likely to be to coldest, with single
digits in many spots under clearing
skies and a fresh snow cover.
