Topic says. For me. It would have to be, The Blizzard of 2003, or 1996. 1996, Dumped over 26 inches of snow at my house! And Of Course, 2003, I recived over 21 inches of snow... Now, I hope the Storm Next week, Dec 23-25 could dump as much snow as that!

The Kentucky Blizzard of '78.
I was 9 and I remember that was the first time I heard the term "cabin fever" because everyone was getting it. People were snowed in for days and couldn't stand it. They had police units and army reservists out driving to certain pharmacies that were open to pick up medications for people who couldn't get out. It was rough not being able to really go anywhere or do anything. But...there was always snowtime!
The best part about it was that all that snow (over 2 feet) fell overnight and it was followed by a light freezing rain. The rain coated the top of the snow and created a frozen layer on which I could walk without crushing through the snow. My best friend and I got out in it and used our gloved hands to cut "bricks" of snow and they made the best darn snow fort ever. Then the snow plows cleaned up the streets and left huge piles of snow, several feet tall, deposited at the ends of the streets and in the cul-de-sacs. We dug tunnels and caves in those mountains.

It would have to be the SUnday, October 1997 snowstorm in Omaha. The night before, the system looked to track far enough south across northern Arkansas/extreme southern Missouri to just give eastern Nebraska and western Iowa about an inch or two of the white stuff.
The next morning, I awoke to a very "white" window, and wondering why we were not going to church. FIgured out when I checked the television that the low pressure decided to track just a bit north (about 50 miles), and we got pounded with 7-12 inches of snow.
Unfortunately, leaves were still on the trees, and you pretty much can fill in the blank. Trees were downing powerlines and whatnot. There was no school for three days.

THE FIRST PRES DAY STORM............................
February 19, 1979
Woodbridge VA got clobbered by 23 inches of snow, 19 inches of it fell in 6 hours between 1 am and 7 am that morning!!! Drifts over 9 feet!!!
I was still in high school then, and I was off for over a week!!!!
Nowadays, I am praying for a 36 inch storm.
I am praying for 36 inches of snow and temps in the low 20s, then a Siberian high builds in with 30 to 50mph winds with higher gusts. I want to personally experience 20 foot drifts. I will be out there shoveling it. Snow blowers are for elderly peeps who can't handle real work and who are too frickin' feeble to stand up to real life. I want those high winds because I love it when nature is completely out of control. All my life I have yearned for a three foot snow with high winds and dangerous whiteout conditions that drift snow so ferociously that I can go out and spend 15 hours shoveling my driveway, walk, and three cars out of 3 feet of snow with 20 foot drifts, only to have 30 to 50mph winds shake the house all night, and get up the next morning to find more huge drifts completely drifting over all my shoveling the previous day.
You wanted spice on this board, you got it! I'm the frickin' craziest snow freak you ever heard of. I am actually praying for 36 inches to hit Woodbridge VA right where I live. We would be paralyzed for 3 weeks!!! Not that it would even make me bat an eyelash. All I want is my snow, so I can go out and walk around and look at it and spend hours shoveling it.

It was supposed to be a harmless 2-4" snowfall but we ended up with 9 inches here and 12"+ totals a county to the west. We had several guys from the western quarter of the state stay up that night and track the storm. It was really something to see the forecast go from 2 to 4 to 8 to who knows what we'll end up with!

Well for me i would suggest reading the link below. I have a whole slew of them from 78 till 96!!! BTW my favorite of all time is the 83 DC blizzard.

Several big snows have hit our area... in NW Virginia...
1983 - 36 inches - Shoveled all day so my Dad could make it up the drive, but it was impossible to keep up with the rate of snow coming down.
1993 - 34 inches - Ten years later another tremendous storm.
1996 - 24 inches - Followed by heavy rain and floods due to melting snow.
2003 - 30 inches - It just kept snowing

Snow has traction, an icy glaze does not. I would think you would of skated, not walked.
LOL! Nah, the rain sort of wet the top layer of snow and that whole top wet layer froze. So it was like a snow cone that solidified. Still had traction, but was frozen.

Most memorable was this year's President's Day blizzard... but definitely not my favorite. My wife was still recovering from a C-section, her dad had a herniated disk... and I had a nasty stomach virus. But, since I was the only one physically able-bodied one in the house, and since the snow was too deep for our snowblower (29 inches), I had to alternate shoveling while yakking... :17:
But my favorite storm was the April '82 blizzard. We got about 18 inches, school was closed for 4 days, and we actually had a severe thunderstorm warning during the height of it!

4 storms come to mind
1978 blizzard 31" and the storm that began my weather weenie career. My dead end street didnt get plowed and the neighbors all pitched in on the second day to shovel the street.
1986 suprise 18" showfall that fell after we all went to school. Most of the snow fell in 5 hours. My schoolbus went off the road and we had to wait for another bus to get home
1993 Superstorm. Spent the morning icefishing on Lake Champlain VT. My buddy locked his keys in the car and had to hitch back to Burlington. I got so cold waiting I broke into a Shanty with his dog for 4 hours before he got back. We got 26 inches and the temps were never over 10F
1996 Still the best 33" and 35 hours of continous snow. All was lost the next week as rain and 60F temps destroyed the snowpack. Only time I ever seen thundersnow at 7F. State of emergency for 2 days with all travel restricted.
