White Christmas for the deep south re: GFS??

#1 Postby Valkhorn » Tue Dec 16, 2003 8:48 pm

I know. I wish... chances of the GFS being right at 192 hours are slim to none. But it's nice to think about.

Our local NWS discussion had this to say:

.LONG TERM...
MODELS CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT DECENT AGREEMENT IN THE LONG
TERM...ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN IN THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE. AN ENTRENCHED UPPER LEVEL VORTEX OVER THE NORTHERN PACIFIC OCEAN WILL BRING MASSIVE QUANTITIES OF JET STREAM ENERGY TO THE WEST COAST. THIS ENERGY WILL IN TURN CREATE A TURBULENT AND PROGRESSIVE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN OVER THE U.S. WITH A MEAN TROUGH ANTICIPATED OVER THE EASTERN THIRD OF THE COUNTRY. SHOTS OF ENERGY DIVING OVER A CORRESPONDING MEAN RIDGE IN THE WEST WILL BRING A REINFORCING BLAST OF SEASONABLY CHILLY WX INTO THE REGION THURSDAY. THE STRONG VORT LOBE WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL PASS JUST TO THE NORTHEAST SO SOME CLOUDS ARE EXPECTED. ATMOSPHERE LOOKS TOO DRY FOR MUCH PRECIP...ALTHOUGH A FEW INSIGNIFICANT SPRINKLES/FLURRIES ARE POSSIBLE LATE IN THE DAY THURSDAY IN NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI. DRY CONDITIONS WITH SLOWLY MODERATING TEMPERATURES ARE ON TAP FRIDAY THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY. THE NEXT SHOT OF ENERGY TO COME DOWN THE PIKE LOOKS TO DIG SOUTH FURTHER WEST. THIS DEVELOPMENT WOULD BRING MORE MOISTURE INTO OUR REGION IN ADVANCE OF THE SYSTEM...GIVING THE SYSTEM A CHANCE TO BRING US DECENT RAINFALL THROUGH A SUNDAY NIGHT TO TUESDAY MORNING PERIOD. THE PASSAGE OF THIS SYSTEM WILL OCCUR JUST IN ADVANCE OF THE TWENTY-FIFTH...BUT ABOVE FREEZING TEMPERATURES SHOULD PRECLUDE CHANCES OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS AT THIS
TIME.

I wish. Looks like a decent Wet Christmas for my neck of the woods, even though it's a close call for some wrap around snowfall if any. I would like to see where this heads when the other models get into the range of the 24th...

The local discussion here usually would never mention the snow word unless they were serious.
