Snow in Texas?
Yeah, I saw that this morning on JB's Winter Map Discussion on Accuwx. By Jan. 2nd, the projected snow cover map extended as far south in Texas as Austin, which certainly caught my attention.
Now that would be something ... this developing cold pattern is going to be fun to watch!

At this time I don't see it snowing all the way down to the coast. Let's just hope that they cold air doesn't get deylayed anymore.
It does look alot like the Newyears snow storm a few years ago when there was heavy snow at the MSU vs Texas Am game.
I hope that it's different this time cause that storm wimped out before it got to Alabama and I only saw a few flakes.

I guess it's time for me to do another thorough model check. Last time I looked earlier this weekend, the cold was definitely there, but the precip wasn't, at least not this far South into TX. It was looking good for much of the South to my East, but still not to the coast. I'll come back on this later when I have a good look and post my thoughts. Like he said, just mention it and the world stops!!!

Snow down this way is a very rare occasion. With that said, if we do get any snow, I hardly think it will be mentioned in an extended forecast. I think the last measurable snow down this way was not even supposed to happen. I think it was put into the forecast maybe 8 to 14 hours before hand. In other words, if it does snow down this way, it won't be in the forecast.

So far I am going with no snow for our area, at least through the 2nd of January. I just did a quick check and I think even with the GFS above we are at best looking at a possible mention of frozen precipitation somewhere in SE TX. I do not see it happening at this time, but we are still way far out so who knows??? I will take on some other models later tonight hopefully, after some more runs are out and see what shows. Definitely see a cold push, but the precip just isn't there yet. The cold seems to have moderated somewhat, at least for the deep South and coastal areas, but I want to take a much closer look before I commit myself to anything.

Just remember everyone how far this is out and not to even mention its the GFS. More or less take it as there is more then likely a cold push of air headed into the lower 48 with a possible storm developing along the inital push of cold air!
Which i think most know anyways.
Either way its nice looking for myself included on that map above!LOL
