BWI ALL TIME RECORD IN THE BOOKS

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Wed Dec 24, 2003 12:41 pm

Good morning everyone. Happy holidays. Let's talk about a holiday gift, annual rainfall records. At least I'll call it a holiday gift. BWI Airport has established an all time record for annual precipitation. As of 10 am est this morning, 62.38" of rain/melted snow occurred at BWI. As a result, BWI has established a brand new record. Note more rain has fallen since 10 am this morning and the totals are now over 62.5 inches for the year as we speak. I'll get the final totals this afternoon. However down below is the 10 am record total relative to other wet years in Baltimore.

#1 2003: 62.38" as of 10 am est
#2 1889: 62.35"
#3 1979: 58.98"
#4 1996: 58.31"
#5 1952: 56.57"

Light to moderate rains will continue at BWI through early afternoon before tapering off. The bottom line though is we're well into all time record territory here.

Wow. Our town is at 69.19 inches of rain for the year. I'm wondering if we'll get past 70 :)

That's crazy. With one week left in the year (and chances for more precip in your forecast) 65 inches may not be out of the question IMHO...

I bet that helps the drought situation we had a year or so ago.

we're seeing too much

It's more than helped the drought. Now we're seeing too much precip and flooding each time. Just a nasty setup. We need drier wx now.
