I'm giving up

#1 Postby Colin » Fri Dec 26, 2003 9:36 pm

Well, it was a nice winter for the 10 days it lasted. Now, looks like temps in the upper 30s to even the 50s at times for the forseeable future. Maybe one more moderate snowstorm, but otherwise, it's over here IMO.

I'm enjoying my rain, heck, I might plant the flowers soon!

Winter just started. Not every winter is going to be prolonged cold all season long, in which I think 2002-2003 has corrupted many people in wanting every winter to be as such. Hell, even last winter has its down time so to speak.

Variability seems to be the rule this year, and I don't see that changing any time soon. FWIW, the models in 2 days may show "bitter cold" again, as they simply cannot catch up to the screaming PAC JET right now.

I don't know why i'm even bothering...you see these posts every other week throughout the winter, going back and fourth arguing the same points, over and over and over...

1. A pet peeve of mine. Winter did not start last Monday. It started December 1st. Sure, 'officially', it started last Monday. Whatever. Why on earth we begin winter on the shortest day of the year, when the sun is lowest in the sky is beyond me. I thought winter had to do with the climate, and the weather. IMO, in some places winter might begin in early November. In others, it may only last for January. It all depends upon your perception, and the climate. Not astronomy.

2. Whenever winter begins, the point still stands...winter is not over. Unless you're in south Florida, where one could argue that there isn't a winter(again, it depends upon your perception of how cold/snowy it has to be to be 'winter') We still have the coldest month of the year to go through, and then another third of 'METEOROLOGICAL WINTER' after that. In some places, March could even be considered winter-like...go figure. You can continue to be ignorant and whine about how we are going through a somewhat unseasonably warm period, after a very snowy December(in many places anyways), and that the pattern will never change and there will be no changes in airmass, no storms, blah blah blah.
There is no use citing the hundreds of times we have been here before, and had a pattern change or one storm, out of the blue, that makes everyone giddy.
You are free to look at it however you like, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I just had to let the frustration out.

LOL Colin, I feel for ya!! We've been warm and dry the past 2 winter seasons, just hoping that either this third time is the charm, or spring shows up early! :D

I like my warmer winters just fine thank you  Last February I could even go swimming a couple times cause temps. got into the low 80's.

Last winter was a chilly winter for us though. We were below 32 at least 7 or 8 times and we even had snowfall on the coast on January 24th. Yes you heard me right.. Central Florida had snow  Plus we had a very cold morning here that morning.. It got down to like 24 degrees

Good point!

I remember that a number of our pro/amateur forecasters had mentioned that they saw this winter as being variable. I'm not too concerned. I think that we haven't seen NOTHING yet!

Well........I hope it stays on the mild side this winter.

I really hate the cold and snow.

I love the warm temps and being outdoors in shorts and swimming.

Sorry everyone............Let the sun shine and warm temps come. :)

Colin, after 7 years of drought, virtually no snow for those 7 years, I was ready to toss in the towel AGAIN this winter, man....was I *WRONG*, did I just say "I" was wrong?? "LOL!" I'm NEVER wrong, just simply mistaken!

Wow Colin, it is not even January yet and you are calling an end to winter. Sounds like someone is depressed about all the rain and no snow lately. I would like to think we in PA can and will see snow in Jan, Feb and Mar.

The last week of January is, on average, the coldest week of the year.

don't worry colin, you average more snow in FEBRUARY than DECEMBER!
Same is true for January, and even march averages ABOUT the same amount of snow for most areas from DCA-BOS.

LOL!!! A person after my own heart! :D

I can't stand the bitter cold or the snow anymore. I like temps above 60 year 'round. I guess maybe I should move back to Phoenix. 8-)

In Topeka, I want 60's or 70's, or a big sleet storm that closes down schools. Snow does nothing but cause problems.
