streetsoldier It is a SAR-1 and they are 7.62 X 39. The SAR-3 is the .223 I believe. I love the wood grain on the stock and don't think I could swap it even for the weight difference. The picture doesn't do it justice. I thought about a scope but I think I might go with a red dot. coriolis it is only part of my homeland defense system. I am not sure who Bert Gummer is deb_in_fl . Does he believe in success by superior firepower?

Did you ever see the movie Tremors? Kevin Bacon
and Fred Ward star in it. And yes that is what he believes. The series comes on Friday nights on SiFi
channel. The movies are some of my favorites.

OK, 7.62 X 39R is good...and plentiful. If that's the Romanian AK variant, it probably didn't come with a muzzle brake. FAC has both the Russian slant brake (best, IMHO, as it adds the benefit of reduced recoil without the extra length) and the AK-74 type, plus spacers to fit your muzzle (screw-on, left-hand threading). These ARE well worth the small investment. One other thing..that is the double-stack mag style, right?

As to that synthetic grip...FAC informed me that they don't hold up well...if you can replace it with a Chinese wood grip (checkered, w/spacer and mounting screw w/base), that's another minor improvement that's worth the extra hassle.

And to address that "red dot" sight? You'd be a lot happier with a Tritium three-dot sight system (it doesn't take anything away from the "looks"); the East Germans made some that are commercially available.

Yep it's Romanian with the double stack. It came with two 20 rnd and one 10 rnd mag's. It will take the 30, 40 rnd and even the 75 rnd drums. I plan on a muzzle brake down the line. Nope never watched tremors.

Model 12 Winchester barrels are commercially available...I'm guessing that you're looking for an 18-20" cylinder bore w/rifle sights? Check with your local friendly gunsmith...he'll know who's got them.
