For Raleigh, NC on Jan. 7th....Accuweather says :ICY:, The weather channel says :SHOWERS: and the Farmer's Almanac says: RAIN TURNING TO SNOW......... Are there any indications that we will have a winter storm on or around the 7th???? Thanks in advance.

Exactly, and that run wouldn't put NC in any threat of wintry weather, but

1) it's the op GFS
2) it's the op GFS past 84 hours
3) it's the op GFS

The 12z GFS ensemble members show quite a spread in the 500mb and SFC placement of features, which conflicts with the 12z op GFS, however, the common theme from BOTH do not support a wintry threat for NC, ATT. (Subject to change with each run which the GFS is famous for. )

I saw the same thing on AccuWeather (ice for the 7th) but now it has changed to rain. Which ever it becomes, I hope it cools off soon becuase some of my shrubs are starting to leaf out!

Something MAY be up in mid january time frame...however exactly what is and will remain a big question until we get closer...

Accuweather long range is based on the GFS operational runs...it changes with the model...lol...
