I'm not superstitious, although I do avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalk.

geeez....what's the biggie here? I think I'll go home and tell C it has to go back up, and would she mind helping me load everything back down out of the attic.

No wait..I have a better idea. We'll just come spend the rest of the holidays at your house! Can we bring our cat?

I woke up today to my mother finished taking the ornaments off and in the process of unravelling a string that has little gold colored balls on it, off our small, 5 1/2 foot tree. So, needless to say, our tree is no longer up. :)

I was a bit surprised because usually it stays up a few days before or after, if not right on Epiphany... the 12th Day of Christmas.

Shawn, congratulations on 2,500 posts. :D

My youngest daughter, now 13, hates when I take our real tree down. I have it recycled every year. And I've almost missed the cut off date for that, I refuse to dump it with our trash. We're into recycling in our family - big time. So all my indoor/outdoor lights are up, decorations up, and tree all decorated still. I would like to begin the take-down stage but Laura fights me every year. One year when she was very little I put the tree in my hatchback, to take to the nursery for mulching. Before I drove off, I noticed something on the tree. She had taken a yellow post it note and wrote - Bye Bye Christmas Tree, with a picture of the tree drawn with crayons. She hung this note on the tree! I have kept that post it note all these years. And boy did I feel guilty that day. She walked in from school, knowing the tree would be gone, but hoping I had procrastinated and kept it up. The sad look on her face said it all. She was about 7 then. If Laura had her way, it all would stay up until February!

Hey Dennis...I can relate. But our broken ornaments come from a different species. the dreaded CAT! There is nothing more mischevious than a cat in the same room as the Christmas tree. But he is smart this darn cat....he waits to the middle of the night to dis-mantle the tree. We are often awkened by the sound of rolling glass ornamments on the hardwood floor, usually followed by a crash against the wall. Onward to the next ball. We gave up on tinsel as anyone with a cat can attest its downright gross having to pull the tinsel out of their butts.

I only lost 1 glass ornament this yeaar j....not a abd number, eh?

We've continued to buy marked down Christmas trees....theres a new one in my daughters room ( I convinced the mang. at KMart to sell me the floor model, all dressed , throwing in the decor and selling me the tree for 1/2 off) :)...and my dressing room....I can justify that one, bc my dressing room has a window and its the center window of the upstairs and the tree makes a great visual from the outside. So, nedless to say, we are leaving our trees up a bit longer.

Our artificial tree came down on January 2nd. Literally. It fell apart when we put it up...some wire was used to help it keep its shape. So our tree is not only down, it is out. It will be set curbside this week for trash pickup. This is only our third artificial tree in 20 years.

But the memories it leaves are real...both the good and the sad.

Our real tree is up and decorated. I do light in the evening but I'm nearby. At this point I know it's stopped taking on water! You see my youngest daughter wants to keep it up until the 6th, like our church Pastor says to do. Nativity set up still too. But everything else is down. Is it all in boxes yet? Nope that's on my list of things to do today. The tree is always the last to go. And taking it down is never fun.

Most of our trees are down and in the attic. I still have the real tree up, in the family room, but its only got lights left on it.Today I'm working on dismantleing the formal living room tree and fireplace mantle decor. The foyer staircase railing has come down, (garlands, flowers and lights).

The foyer tree has been transformed into a Mardi Gras tree...anyone else do a Mardi Gras tree?

The outside lights are down...and the wreath gets replaced with a Mardi Gras wreath next week. I still have all of my nativitys up, and some of my Christmas village. Its sooo much work, putting verything away. Its about a constant 1 week job. I'm halfway there tho!

The kids want to leave their trees up, but they are going to go this week!

I have live garlands draped through the crystal chandeliers, and I think I'll leave them up for a while. They still look fresh.

Shannon - I forgot, Laura has her tree up still too! And newer lights in her room. I said this year it all has to be put away. You see I never knew before this year, many xmas light sets have lead in the green cord! So many boxes have that warning on the back. And Laura thought it was cool to keep xmas lights up in her room year-round. She's my tomboy, loves a unique looking room. She has vintage license plates hanging on her walls - bought at garage sales - for one example! Yes, no pink girly-girly room for her. Think I'll add this to my list today.....Laura, it all goes today!!! Wish me luck with that one.....
