Remains Found In Area Could Be Ancient
Ancient human remains possibly dating back to 4,000 B.C. were unearthed in Greendale, Ind., Monday, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Tony Gnau reported. Workers were digging on Ridge Avenue when they saw the bones, that archaeologists have since taken to Indianapolis to determine their exact age.
The remains might be those of two people, Gnau reported.
For now, the crews will continue building on the site, but it'll be a side-by-side effort with some additional personnel. It's the first construction project in Greendale in a long time, Gnau reported.
"It's actually like the first building that Greendale's built in like the past 50 years," Performance Construction spokesman Jason Molnar said.
Archaeologists will be on site next week, and will sift through the area for more ancient evidence.
"They found a knife there that's like 6,000 to 8,000 years old, the archaeologist said," Molnar said.
The construction crew called Indiana Conservation Officer John Groover after the discovery, Gnau reported. Indiana law requires builders to notify officials in cases like this one. Groover arrived on site with a video camera, then called an expert after recording the development.
Construction will continue, just not in the immediate area where the bones were found. The exposed bones have been removed, but archaeologists said they think they'll find more evidence, Gnau reported.
"(Archaeologists) find out a lot from what they actually find around the bodies as much as they find out from the bones themselves," Groover said.
This is cool...4000 years old...that's ancient all right...
