The artic blast next week.

Ok. Kansas is known for it's temprature changes. In December, Topeka has had 20 above average temp days, 7 below, and 2 average. Tomorrow and Wednesday will be above normal as well, making 22 days above normal for Topeka this month. To ring in the new year, Topeka will be again above normal, and will be until January 7th. BOOM! Temps will PLUMMIT! I see a low on Thurs. possibly being in the single digits, 9, as forecasted by my local met.

So.. will this artic blast actually go South, possibly affecting Texas and other SE states? Or will it go East and affect the NorthEast mainly?

A good way to start the new year off nonetheless.

Meteorologists and weather afficionados in the Deep South are aware of the artic conditions heading our way on the second and third weeks of January and have been discussing this subject for the last couple of weeks. It has been some time since the Deep South has experienced frigid temperatures and those all the way down to the Gulf Coast should be prepared and ready for severe cold later on in the month of January. It's too soon to predict frozen precipitation for the Gulf Coast, however, it certainly is not out of the question, at this time. Stay tuned....

That is my kind of forecast Randy. I remember back in January 1985 in VA when temps got down to around -20. I know we won't see anything like that soon but man it was great! Now that I am paying gas bills though I cringe a little, but I still love the cold.

I hope this holds together this time!!! It sure does look like us here in the plains (whatever we are called-Kansas is called so many areas its hard to keep track!!) will see some Winter weather next week. I'll keep the fishing ploes ready none the less!!! have a great day!!

Our local weather Meteorologists here in Dallas thinks it will slide off to the east before it gets this far south, others think it will go all the way to Houston.

I'm hoping it goes to Houston.

I remember the DFW mets being off quite a bit on past winter weather events. They're better at forecasting 100 degree days in the Summer than winter weather events.

I think that guys name is Steve McCauley.

Well... this weekend we could get 1.5 inches of snow. I won't believe it until I see it. I wasn't able to see my met's 5+5 (10 day forecast), but at 6 i'll tell you what he's forecasting on Tues. and Wed. and Thurs.

The NWS doesn't show an artic chill yet, with the last 3 days of high's all being "35°".

NWS in D.C has not even slightly eluded to the artic air potential moving in, not yet anyway. Model consistency could change that.

a week off starting January 12th (doc's out

By my novice look at the models (and I underline, bold etc. the word novice) I think Lawrence is finally going to get the cold and some snow-it has been a while since we have had severe cold here-hoopefully this will all hold together-I'll say one thing about our mets-they have been bitten so many times calling for huge snow etc. only to have it all turn to sleet and rain-they are gun shy-espec. a few in Kansas City. Oh well, when it is all said and done, the weather will do what it is going to do-with the dry slot we've been in for the past three years, the cold will prob. all go North and east of us-St. Louis will prob. have a foot of snow and temps in the teens and we'll be stuck with partly Cloudy and 40!!! Have a great night!!
