Traditional New Year's meal?

If you have one, what's your traditional New Year's meal? When I was growing up, my mom always served corned beef, cooked cabbage, and black-eyed peas. Down here in TX, they look at me strange at the deli when I ask for corned beef. And at the party I've been to for the past two years, they serve pot roast, cabbage, black-eyed peas, and rice.

If I remember correctly, my mom said the cabbage (being green) was for wealth in the New Year, the black-eyed peas were for health, and the corned beef was for good luck.

Not that I'm superstitious.

A true southern tradition lives on in my family, all of my family, both sides, came from South Texas, Arkansas.......the traditional Black Eyed Peas with hog jawls, fried chicken, coleslaw, cornbread are on tonights menu here at the snowmans house. Bon Apetite! I just put the black eyed peas in the crock pot!

Blackeyed Peas, Cabbage are the traditions here at my mom's house. Along with old-fashion smoked ham...I'm hungry just thinking about this...lunch will be served around 1 p.m.!!

I am just finding out that black eyed peas are pretty much the tradition all over this great country. I love 'em cooked with ham. Although I don't think that my family would care for them too much. Of course, I'll eat most anything put in fromt of me. But the rest of the family (all female) are more picky...lol
