Another Friend From The Past...

#1 Postby azskyman » Mon Jan 05, 2004 11:23 pm

Just as the new year got started, out of the blue and right onto my monitor popped a message from a former Vietnam vet who spent the better part of a year with me over there in 1970.

I had spent some 20 years trying to find him.

"Last time I heard from you, you were running in a primary for mayor of your hometown. That was in 1983. Did you win?" were his first questions.

"Nope, I lost 1170-776...didn't carry a single precinct!" I told him.

Took twenty years to give him that answer. He's another Texan, living south of Houston. In the oil business!

Anyone else meet up with a long lost friend over the holidays? Always fun to play a little catch up.....

Not here since I got sick on Christmas Day and had to stay inside most of the time, but I'm happy that you got to reunite with your friend Steve. :)

My story is a little different....while at my mothers wedding reception this past Dec., I spent time with my best girlfriend from childhood's little darling daughter! Mommy wasn't there, but she attended with her grandparents. It was special to spend time with Jessic's little one, when at the same age, we were best buddies.

Steve - what a touching story! To find eachother after all these years is so neat. I'm sure it made for an especially nice xmas. My brothers both were in the Viet Nam War and one was stationed in Long Beach, CA and Fallon, Nevada while in the Navy. His best friend then was married and his wife began writing to my mom and I. She became like a big sister to me. I would write to her about school, crushes on boys I had, etc. I was in my early teens then. They had a little boy but sadly got divorced later on. Funny thing was my brother didn't stay close with her ex but we stayed close with her! But thru the years we lost touch. She remarried and my parents split. The address she had for my family I'm sure got lost in the shuffle. I've wondered about her a few times over the years. And I kept her old letters. Just reading your story reminded me of Dianne. I'm sure I could find her if I searched the Internet. Maybe I will do that someday. A lot has happened in almost the 30 years we've written.

Thanks for sharing your story Steve.
