... SNOWFALL POSSIBLE ACROSS THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AND SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY...

A COLD DOME OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE OVER THE REGION THROUGH THURSDAY PRODUCING UNSEASONABLY COLD TEMPERATURES. TEMPERATURES EARLY THIS MORNING WILL RANGE FROM THE SINGLE DIGITS NORTH AND ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS TO THE TEENS ELSEWHERE WITH WIND CHILLS FROM NEAR ZERO TO 10 BELOW ZERO.

HIGHS TODAY AND THURSDAY WILL BE IN THE 30S MOST LOCATIONS... EXCEPT NEAR 40 ACROSS THE SOUTHERN TENNESSEE VALLEY. THE AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE WILL MOVE EAST OF THE TENNESSEE VALLEY BY LATE THURSDAY ALLOWING A DEVELOPING STORM SYSTEM ACROSS THE PLAINS STATES TO MOVE INTO THE AREA. INCREASING SOUTHERLY WINDS ALOFT WILL PULL SOME GULF MOISTURE BACK INTO THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY.

A MIXTURE OF SNOW AND RAIN WILL DEVELOP ACROSS THE SOUTHERN STATES WITH MAINLY SNOW FROM EAST CENTRAL TENNESSEE NORTHWARD LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY FRIDAY. SNOWFALL BETWEEN 1 AND 4 INCHES IS POSSIBLE BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON... MAINLY IN AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 40. THE HIGHER TOTALS WILL BE IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA... NORTHEAST TENNESSEE AND THE EASTERN TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS....

They have yet to talk about GA, so we will see if that changes later today. My guess is that we will at least get a mix here tomorrow night with the dewpoints so low. Rome's forecast has snow to rain.

no -removed- needed! it will be all rain in our area, sorry. maybe some mixing in mountains. as a matter of fact the trends and pattern have been the same for a few days now and the models have been fairly consistent on no frozen precip for metro atl.

Well, I think you could be right about it being a rain event for the metro area. Although, sometimes sleet falls at the onset with all that cold dry air. Could be the case tomorrow, but we will have to wait and see.
