I'm POed!

#1 Postby pojo » Wed Jan 07, 2004 3:09 pm

I received this letter in the mail today..... :grr: :grr: :grr: and I am going to fight this until I leave! My grades are towards the middle of the post.

Dear Student,

Based on your academic performance in the Fall 2003 semester and UW-Green Bay policies, you have been placed on academic warning.

Sincerely,
UW-Green Bay Registrars Office

What is Academic Warning?
Although you have a current cumulative GPA above 2.0, you have been sent this warning because your most recent semester GPA was less than a 2.0. Unless your performance improves for the next semester, you may be in danger of failing to meet requirements for good academic standing at the end of the next semester.

Here is the exact printout from the Student Information System (SIS)
Fall 2003, (checked 12/23/03 and 1/7/04)

class, credits, grade
:rarrow: Environmental Systems, 3 cr, B
:rarrow: Hydrology, 3 cr, BC
:rarrow: Introduction to Statistics, 4 cr, C
:rarrow: Rock and Mineral Resources, 3 cr, B
:rarrow: Soil Environment, 4 cr, C

fall 2003 GPA 2.441
cum GPA 2.678

Now you tell me..... am I on Academic Warning? That answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT! :grr: My GPA's range from 2.40 to 3.33. I had a 2.0 GPA during the Summer 2003 for receiving a C in my one and only class....do you think I was flagged for that.... NOPE! Every semester that I receive below a 3.0, I am flagged for Academic Warning. How is that so....Academic Warning is when you receive BELOW a 2.0. SIS shows my grades, and they were the same on both dates that I checked them. This must mean that the Registrars Office has a different printout! :?: How could that be, I do not have an alterego!

I am going to call the Registrars office today to figure this out.... I will not let them constantly state that I am academic warning when in doubt, I AM NOT! If this continues, Chancellor Shephard is going to get a nice little letter on my behalf.

Looks like there is a major bug in the computer program that checks for these academic warning situations.

Sound like just a computer glitch that can easily be corrected. Probably not worth getting too upset about unless they tell you otherwise. In which case, we'll get the Storm2K SWAT Team on 'em!

Computers...a computer decided to send you that notice. But it is a human who will have to deal with you now.

I can tell you this...if you WERE on academic probabition for the grades you are showing, more than half the student body would be on academic pro at any university!

The next step is getting to the right person who knows how to beat the computer at its own game.

Good luck.

They're grading kids now for study hall? :-? I don't recall that ever happening on any of my report cards.
