Even though there is never 100% cooperation from the
public, hopefully, by starting now to stress the importance
of awareness in this potentially devastating situation,
the majority of people might pay attention to take extra
care in simple prevention techniques.

I'm betting that those military choppers won't be
available to help out, either!

I saw on the news about that lady being found guilty in court that set some of those fires. She was crying heavily when the verdict came in. I hope she was weeping for acres upon acres of forest, wild life, and homes that she detroyed in her fit of rage. And not weeping because she was found guilty. I have no sympathy for any verdict nor sentence handed down for people that can do something like that.

Sad part is, Valinda Jo Elliott, the one responsible for the Chediski fire has been set free, allowed to walk, the Az Attorney General saw NO wrong doing on her behalf, said all she was doing was saving HER life, well what about the 300+ residents of Overgaard, the area hit the hardest from HER fire, they have NOTHING, not a pot to pi** in and what about the indian who started the Rodeo Fire, found to be incompatant!!!

Fire Management People in the Coronado NF say that the recent heavy snows have come too late for a good buildup of moisture in the trees and undergrowth and that once the Spring winds hit it will be a matter of only about 7 days and we will be right back where we were before the snows hit. The other problem is that there will be no large tanker aircraft available until June at the earliest since the entire large tanker fleet has been grounded by the FAA pending completion of airworthiness inspections and recertification and NO C-130's will be recertified. This leaves only small aircraft and choppers for water and slurry drops. This is ominous. My video showing the near approach of the Ryan fire last April to Huachuca City also showed how many large aircraft were making drops. These drops very likely prevented the fire from entering the Babocomari River wash which if it had would have allowed the fire to rush through the northern section of HC.

Steve, that was mentioned in the article, almost every single slurry bomber is grounded, the HOPES were to use military choppers to aid in the fire fight but now with Iraq, it looks pretty grim to say the least

I used to see those Smokey the Bear commercials all the time. Now I never see one that targets people to "prevent forest fires". IMO, it needs to be addressed more.

No, the woman you saw was the former USDA Forest Service employee convicted of starting Colorados worst fire, I believe that was the Hayman Fire??? NO....that BIT** Valinda Jo is walking the streets of Phoenix as I post this!!!

NOW, as far as the thinning goes, I've never supported CLEAR CUT thinning but with this forecast fire season, I say "CUT 'EM ALL DOWN!"

You got it!! These environmental terrorists want to stop the salvage operations in the Rodeo Chediski Burn area, they say it's critical spotted owl habitat, sorry folks, the owls were BBQ'D to a CRISP, the fire was clocked, up hill speed of over 180 MPH, I'm sorry, nothing survived that fire!

Ya know, to be REALLY honest, I've NEVER seen a spotted owl, so to answer your question, I'd have to say yes. We cover over a 1000 miles a week in our business, as most of you know, we do enviro impact studies and assessments for the federal and state gov's, this takes us into parts of the White Mountains that NO ONE has ever seen and never will (if I have MY way ) and we have all kinds of wildlife, even a Black Jaquar along the Black River, BJ'S are common in Mexico but NEVER in Az. this dude musta hiked one HECK of a long way

Well since you do that kind of job, and have never seen a spotted owl... then those environmental terrorists need to show proof that they are in those burned forests. And I can bet they haven't produced not one picture right?
