Boy! Had to read everyone's answers before I could respond to the poll......haven't heard that phrase since the 60's!!
It always amazes me just how fast some of my students CAN type with the ole "hunt 'n peck" method! Guess my old typing teacher would have a hissy-fit seeing those fingers flyin' on the "incorrect" keys......but if the message comes across correctly.....it probably doesn't matter!.....p

Yup, but only because of chat. I thought I'd never be able to type without looking at the keys (and yet still using home row). I was slow all through school. But then AOL came along and I got into a trivia chatroom where speed is the key (first one to answer gets to ask the next question). Gradually, I was able to type while watching the monitor and not watching the keys...and then I just got faster.

Ditto here CajunMama!!! I learned to type on a manual. What's that the youngin's ask? A 5 speed typewriter? LOL I also learned to type with carbon paper, no white out was allowed by our typing teacher.
Ah, the memories.
I've always used home row! Funny thing is, if you're off by one key, you know it in a second b/c you're typing nonsense!

Thanks for the responses everyone.
John is correct! "Home row" is putting your four left fingers on A, S, D and F and your four fingers of your right fingers on J, K, L and ;. (the semi-colon)
With that said, if you honestly didn't know what home row was before the answer you obviously should vote for "What is 'home row'?"
I took typing in 9th (in 1992-1993) grade and picked up the skill quite quickly and am able to type quite quickly.

There is no option to vote for "What is home row"
I see that, I included before I posted this thread. Sorry for it not being there. :-?

I haven't had a typing class in over 20 years. Man do I feel old now. Bit anyway, I guess I never really paid attention until this topic, but I still do use Home Row when I type. I cannot type too much without looking at the keyboard though. I am not sure why, I guess that's just how I've done it forever.
