My favorite bridge - saved!

#1 Postby coriolis » Mon Jan 12, 2004 7:40 pm

The link below goes to a site showing construction for a major highway project near where I grew up. You can click on the thumbnails at the bottom to see enlargements of the photos. The old concrete bridge is probably at least 60 years old and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's notable because it goes around a curve, which is rare for this type of bridge. The state DOT was considering taking it down, but decided to re-hab it and build a new one next to it to change the highway from 2-lane to 4-lane. I camped and fished under this bridge and spent much time pondering the design and aesthetics. The area is all ripped up for construction, but the bridge remains!

Also the link below shows some more views, about 2/3 of the way down the page. Also includes some nice photos of the town I grew up in. Check out the old art-deco gas station.

Boy that brings back the memories.

Cute town. Luv the gas station! That's really great that they didn't destroy the bridge - something that holds fond memories for you.

I still miss the Notre Dame Bridge that WAS in Manchester, NH when we lived there. Right in the center of town, it had such beauty and character.

I camped and fished under this bridge and spent much time pondering the design and aesthetics.

Hmm, I bet that's not all you did under that bridge, Ed.
