With a low of -31 F yesterday, and windchills of -40 to -50 F or greater forecast today and tonight, most area schools have closed their doors. The cold is affecting everyone, from human to animal. The Syracuse SPCA lost both of their heat furnaces last night, and as a result many animals had to suffer the below zero weather. Reports are that the water in their bowls even began to freeze up.
Elsewhere, Samaritan Medical Center here in Watertown lost power for two hours yesterday as a generator blew while trying to cope with the increased demands due to the cold.
Also, there was a 22-car pileup on an icy overpass on I-81 yesterday, 17of the cars involved were totaled, but thankfully, no ony was killed.
I'm just worried about what's in store for us again today...
