Is Accuweather accurate?

#1 Postby Lisa » Fri Jan 16, 2004 11:08 am

I am planning a trip to Louisville this weekend. Yesterday Accuweather had forecasted freezing rain and snow--now they are saying just rain!!! Are they accurate most of the time, or should I look somewhere else for the forecast?

Accuweather-an oxymoron, in my opinion. I trust folks on here WAY more than anyone else, since we have such excellent analysts.

Accuweather is the most INaccurate weather info available---it is ver batem of the GFS---but is a good breakdown of what the gfs is showing for any specified area---i look at it if i am unsure of what the gfs (for what its worth) is showing----gives exact inaccurate numbers of the gfs.... For accuracy, stick with the NWS 7 day forecast---they r conservative but the best we have... I have to say, it is nice to see the ice/snow in the forecasts for jacksonville, fl occaisionally on "accu"weather-though i know beforehand-i will just be dissapointed later lol

Anyone know a message board where they repost JB's wx commentary???

Edited!
Re-read your post and that is typical of the gfs and accuweather---major flip flopping of the forecast z-rn to rn-u may get a blizzard or flood lol

I think posters here such as Stormsfury, FLGuy, King of Weather, DT, donsutherland, WXBUFFJIM and WEATHER53 offer excellent analysis of the weather - much better than Accu-weather.

Is Accuweather accurate?
rarely, irocially the long range forecasts seem to be better than the short term forecasts.

I'll second that.

As far as JB... he's not a bad guy, and he is knowledgeable... but he does tend to cater to the people I disagree with more than need be; in other words, he tends to focus on the worst-case scenario (or best-case, depending on your point of view) of any upcoming event. He's decent, but I take some of his predictions with a grain of salt.

I ALWAYS get info from more than one source.
