Arctic air to Texas?

Well, in studying the various maps and predictions you all are posting, I think we in Texas are in for a big chill soon. 3 points:

1. Cross Polar Flow of air is setting up to push cold air further west and south.
2. High Pressure Dome in the southwest is showing signs of backing back out towards the East Central Pacific off Mexico's coast.
3. Northern Jet looks promising to swing more southward after the upper level low presently bringing rain to us swings by. Thus cold air should be unimpeeded.

Any thoughs? I am no expert but I try .

All the fine people that want snow and cold air down in the South deserve a good snow or two.

It appears, more likely, as time passes, that artic air could be heading down from the Northwest. I believe the Canadian model was the first to pick up on this trend this time around.

Dear Southern Snow Geese, including yours truly.

Having lived in Baton Rouge for over 42 years, I can remember about 12 or so times we have had measurable snow. Only about 3 or 4 times was it ever forecasted. The rest were surprises. On the flip side there have been several times where wintry precipitation was forecasted two days or less in advance which were busts.

Instead of torturing ourselves by trying to look ahead at the various models and discussions trying to see when or if any arctic air heads south and meets up with the southern branch, or reading and seeing the fortunate ones who do get the wintry precipitation, we should wish for warmer air, spring and stop trying to figure this winter out.

I can remember when we had about an inch of the white stuff on March 20 in 1968. We've had the biggest and most snows in February. So we still have a chance.

Here's to the 57 degrees this morning and the azaleas and magnolias that are starting to bloom. I hope they are not ruined by the cold or any wintry precip.

Dear Kenneth:
You've got a point. My azaleas are blooming as we speak as well as my water lillies so it would be my luck that we get hit with some cold weather that would totally trash my yard. I'll try to refrain from honking too much, but sometimes a goose has to do what a goose has to do!

I hope you are correct-for Artic air to reach Texas, it has to come through my front door!!! However, our NWS and local mets have us back into the 40's by Friday with no mention of Artic Air (ok, a modified shot for two days early this week then it's gone!!) any time soon-they do mention the split flow so hopefully for you guys when we have our brief shot it makes it to you then you get some energy from the southern jet-looks like this will be one of those deals where Oklahoma and North Texas get some snow and we have partly cloudy and 40 degrees!!! That has happened quite a bit the past several years-areas 300 miles south of us have had more snow than us!! Good luck to you-I hope you get a good snow!! Have a great day!! I was trying to be a little sarcastic and relieve some of the anquish us southerners experience almost every year. I hope a mother load of wintry precip falls onto all of the flowering plants.

Its not fun being teased by the long and medium range models day in and day out.

There's a better chance of wintry precip down here when none is forcast.

Bring on the arctic air and southern branch.

It's starting to get discouraging as we move later and later into January but it's true that Feb. is the month with our best chance of seeing snow. I remember back in middle Feb. of 1996 we dropped down to 16 degrees along with two other nights in the upper teens, low 20's. Our highs were below freezing and we had some flurries one day. So the moral of the story is lets not give up hope and get discouraged by 64 degrees and thunderstorms
