A look back on 2002

2002 was very unusual in comparison to to the past few years. It was short in length, but there were still a lot of storms for an El Nino year. Here's some interesting facts.
1) With Gustav becoming a hurricane on September 11th, 2002 had the latest start date for a hurricane since 1941
2) Only the 12 cyclones formed, 33% became hurricanes, the lowest since 1982.
3) Hurricane Kyle was the 3rd longest storm ever in the Atlantic.
4) Excluding Kyle, majority of the storms were short lived, averging to about 5 days per storm. Including Kyle, it was 7. This year, in contrast, averaged 6 days, though this year, storms either had less than 20 or more than 40.
5) 8, or 66% of the storms formed in September, a record high.
6) 7 storms hit the United States, and Gustav brushed the Outer Banks of Noth Carolina.
