NJ Snow this Weekend

#1 Postby Anonymous » Thu Jan 22, 2004 3:24 pm

What does it look like for central NJ, northern Ocean County, for a good snow total? I hear that this sundays/mondays storm could be "major"

do you see 6+ likely, this looks like it could be another nice snow for my area , so you give it a good chance of seeing 6 or more inches?

Sunday night/Monday could be a good snow event, but low headed for the lakes Monday nite/Tuesday could cause a changeover to sleet/rain and rain on the parade. At least that's what NWS Upton is touting. Not sure about this yet. My experience living on LI would make me believe that things could get dicey on the coastal plain in southern New England. In '78 we saw a pattern of southern stream energy getting active in January that had waves of LP cruising NE up the coast putting down 5 - 7 inches of SNow, then a change to rain. We had three big events, then the last one didn;'t change to rain, leaving 12 inches, then mist/Freezing rain for 5 - 6 days as the temps hovered around 31 degrees. Massive power outages for two weeks. Then a shortwave came down from western Canada and phased with southern stream energy creating the "blizzard" of '78 in early February. Waist deep snow hung around for weeks. Is this something to consider? Let's see if the Greenland block rebuilds and keeps the cold in the east. It's quite possible to see a changeover to rain with the late Tuesday event, but don't fret. Snow and cold will likely return, despite the latest NWS non sense. Still waiting for snow in Palm Bay 8-)

Is it going to be cold enough for everything to stay all snow?
