Jeb- you should be getting some of this light snow. Quantico has snow. That band moving SE looks to be holding together and coming at both of us a little later. Tomorrow will be busy.

12 NOON Sat Jan 24...................................

We are indeed observing light snow at this time. Some of the flakes are getting larger, as if the snow wants to become moderate.

What I simply can not believe is our temperature.

It is ONLY 21 degrees at NOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our high so far today is ONLY 22 degrees!!!

NO 30's or 40s today after all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:jump: :jump: :jump:

Looks as if even the NWS thinks we are in for some snow!!

Weather.com even has the words 'Heavy Snow' on our forecast for Woodbridge for tomorrow!!!

Okay folks, we have 21 degrees, winds NE at 5 gusts to 11, the flurries/light snow is sticking on everything. It is actually blowing along the surface of the road and it is NOT melting!!! Not ONE LITTLE BIT!!!!

That blowing snow is so sweet!!!!

Here is the latest radar, which shows that we may be in for some of that clipper's snow after all!!!

Man I LOVE the way that the snow on the road is blowing along the road every time someone drives along. The wind is gently drifting it along as well!!!!

This is such cool, bracing, refreshing weather!!! ONLY 21 degrees!!! With a dewpoint of 14!!!!

:jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump:

I will keep you all updated, trust me on this folks. :)

Radar looked like you were getting some snow, still nothing here, but the sky is dark to my NW. It was partly sunny for a while now overcast and dark. 25.9 degrees.

1) Today we are still in the LOW 20s with overcast and a few flurries.

2) Our high will probably be in the mid 20s.

3) CAD will be strong and will transport very cold air south overnight.

4) There may be a time of partly cloudy skies early tonight into wee hours.

5) Progged lows in low teens overnight.

We could bottom out at 12 degrees, then have highs tomorrow in the upper teens to near 20 degrees. Remember today we were originally progged for 36 for a high, and it is now 22 degrees at 118pm with cloudiness and light flurries.

So, is it possible that the 30 to 1 Snow to Water Ratio could obtain over N VA tomorrow?

IF we go with ETA's qpf, we would be cranking 0.78 qpf's into that awesome 30 to 1 ratio. My rationale for going with the ETA mod is as follows: The gfs has been far worse with storms this winter than the Washington Redskins matched up against a High School football team LOL LOL!! It's Good For Sh!t and not even worth looking at and IMHO, it should be thrown in the trash and buried in a sanitary landfill. The ETA has been great this winter, and guess what? The model that performs the best is the model that is preferred. So...............................Tomorrow over the N VA........p-type SN++..........qpf 0.78 as per ETA................pretty cold temps, teens to near 20...............then crank in that AWESOME 30 to 1 Snow to liquid Ratio into your weather equation.......................and how much snow do you come up with?.............

HELLO, Snow-filled jebwalk!!!! Hello, back-breaking snow shoveling job!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH, GREENLAND BLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH BABY!!!! BRING IT!!! BRING IT!!! BRING IT!!!! THE CONCLUSION IS INESCAPABLE!!! N VA WILL GET CLOCKED WITH HEAVY SNOWS!!!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, GREENLAND BLOCK!!!

Jeb,

The 30:1 ratios mentioned in the AFD this morning were for the snows they got up in N MD / E WV overnight with the clipper. If we were really getting 30:1 tomorrow, we'd be looking at something like PD2! Hopefully we'll be able to see some 15:1 ratios at the beginning of the event, which may bring us up to, say, 8-10" instead of 6-8".

OH, I AM READY!!!! BRING IT!! BRING IT!!! I am ready to Dig Snow!!! I am ready to conduct yet another jebwalk!!! I would blast music during the jebwalk and enjoy all the piled-up snow!!! I would take a nice, slow, 2 to 4 mile jebwalk!! I would visit all the old snow stomping grounds from last winter: The Harrisonburg Range, old Jeb Ridge from February 2003, and many other excellent places that the plow folks pile up the snow!! We also have many good sledding runs here!! The famed Northeast Slope is an old favorite!!! Get Your Sleds Ready!!!

No one, but NO ONE.......Ever beats JEB in downhill sledding. I have not been beaten in the last 5 years. The Godwin Resort is a humongous sledding hill with something for everyone!! Come one and come all!! :)

Can you stand up on your sled and go ALL THE WAY down the hill? NO CHEATING!!!! If you lose your balance, you are disqualified!!! LOL, J/K, no one is ever disqualified LOL!!

BRING THAT SNOW AND COLD, GREENLAND BLOCK!!!! YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE IT!!!

What's not to love???? :) :) :)

245pm.....................................

We are enjoying a nice winter day here in N VA this afternoon. We had some nice flurries for a couple hours, then they slid off to our east.

The saving grace of today are those clouds overhead. We are still enjoying a comfortable 24 degrees with a refreshing dewpoint of 18 degrees. A light 5 mph NE breeze in enhancing this charming afternoon here in the Mid Atlantic. The high has hit 25 so far, but those clouds have really done the trick for us today. It's approaching 3pm here and once we tick past 4pm, no more appreciable warming will occur, we will toboggan down from there on into the lower teens.

If it had cleared up today, we would have had to put up with 37 degrees easily, even low 40s. But those clouds gave me something to celebrate this afternoon!!

I hear MD got plastered by the clipper last night. Yep, MD, PA and NJ are indeed the favored places for snow this winter. :) You will see this yet again tomorrow into Monday in MD, then NJ will top out with 15 inches of snow because of another bout with snow on Tuesday.

This winter, you best have a few good snow shovels and a snow blower handy if you live in MD, PA or NJ, because these are the places that are getting hit by snow over and over and over again this winter. Last night's clipper totals bear witness to this tale yet again :)

Many of the storm tracks are forming over those places; additionally, it is colder over those places too. On Monday and Tuesday we will go another round with Old Man Winter, only we will have mix or outright rain, while MD, PA, and NJ will have straight snow.

No doubt at all, at least in my mind, that PA/MD/NJ is The Sweet Spot this winter! :) :) :) :) :) :)

That is THE PLACE TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

1evans, Watch Out!!!! By Wednesday morning, you will be snowed in with a foot or more of new snow.

Get that shovel ready!!!!! :) :)

TO EVERYONE IN VA AND SOUTH..........................

There is understandably a lot of excitement about snow in VA today, but this is a serious winter storm.

Some places will be getting snow, then sleet and that dreaded freezing rain.

Sunday into Monday WILL NOT BE a good time to travel.

Snow + Freezing Rain = Disaster!!

Snow accumulates on the roads. Then the snow mixes with sleet then freezing rain. With air temps below freezing, the freezing rain and sleet freeze on the snow and on other surfaces. The road, already treacherously slippery from snow, becomes even more dangerous from the accretion of ice from the freezing rain.

Even more to be feared is freezing drizzle.

Freezing drizzle tends to get on every surface, and because air temperatures will be below freezing, the freezing drizzle will ice up everything in minutes. If the freezing drizzle forms a thick mist, it will ice things up very quickly and make driving and even walking extremely hazardous.

Snow is one thing folks, but freezing rain and freezing drizzle are downright life-threatening. Even trying to walk on surfaces coated with ice from the freezing drizzle is foolhardy. One slip and you can break bones. The very nature of freezing drizzle causes it to ice up the sides of cars, fences, railings, the sides of buildings, and many other objects and other related things we commonly use to aid in our walking and that we all take for granted. These objects will rapidly ICE UP and will become coated with a TREACHEROUS LAYER OF SLIPPERY ICE!!!!!!

I know, I personally have experienced this mess. I was trying to walk and I found that freezing drizzle had not only set up an accretion of ice on the snowpack, but the freezing drizzle had also coated everything with ice!! I slipped, tried to hold onto a railing and it was very slippery because it was coated with a good, thick layer of ice from the freezing drizzle. I of course went down but I rolled with it and only got some serious bruises----no broken bones.

It's very, very difficult to walk in freezing rain/freezing drizzle conditions----let alone drive----but I knew better and I still went out there just like a total dumb@ss.

Beware of snow with a crust of ice from freezing rain and/or freezing drizzle!!!

Even worse are SNOW-PACKED ROADWAYS that have a layer of ice from freezing rain and/or freezing drizzle!!!! Those roadways will have had cars on them that packed down the snow. The snow will melt some then re-freeze, then the freezing rain/freezing drizzle will coat the surface with very, very slick ice. Watch out on roads with a grade (i.e., HILL!!!) That road will then be so d@mn slippery that you may well fall down then slither all the way down the hill, and you will be hard-pressed to find a way to stop the slide. Freezing rain and drizzle on top of packed-down snow on a roadway in sub-freezing temperatures is one of the most slippery surfaces known to man in modern times.

It's not to be messed with, unless you enjoy spending time in the hospital with a broken leg or spine.

Take it very, very, very easy tomorrow into Monday.

Monday, FREEZING DRIZZLE is forecast in Virginia.

Skies are partly cloudy at 5pm but with light snow at the same time, at 24 degrees with N winds at 4 to 10 mph with gusts to 17mph.

There are indications of highs tomorrow in the upper teens, if you can believe that!!!

A nice pleasant overnight is on tap for N VA with a low of 12 to 15. Skies are clearing now but will be overspread with more clouds later tonight ahead of the next system.

Tomorrow, cloudy with snow developing by early afternoon and becoming heavy at times. Highs in the upper teens to near 20 degrees.

All in all, absolutely splendid weather over the next 24 to 36 hours in N VA.

The jebwalk is beckoning.

11pm Saturday Jan 24 2004.......................

The temperature is 18 and falling, Our high today was only 25 degrees.

Winds are straight out of the North at 12mph, with gusts to 18. DP is 4 degrees.

Looks like we will get down into the low teens overnight.

I went out on a jebwalk tonight. It was very crisp. It was 18 degrees with 10mph winds. I covered 1.7 miles, around the Outer Rim of Potomac Mills Mall. Throughout the jebwalk, I looked all around, profoundly conscious of the fact that the frozen, utterly cold ground I was walking on will be covered with snow in only 12 to 18 hours from now.

Tomorrow's jebwalk will be quite interesting.................................

Okay folks....................we have colder temps than progged. The CAD was of course underforecasted by the modles.

Lets take a look at the National Radar.........................

Well, we have an expanding area of moisture over the South. You can see the northern extent is already changing to sleet and snow. This is a good deal of moisture folks............This system will have NO TROUBLE moistening up that column.......This is NO CLIPPER!!!!!!

It will be a lot of fun watching this moisture overrun that cold arctic air at the SFC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is going to be a good deal of ICE too.......Hope you are WELL-STOCKED UP.

Tomorrow I will make an early run for church, then scurry back home before the snow begins around 2pm in Woodbridge. These systems tend to start earlier than predicted; remember that this system will have MUCHO Gulf moisture to work with and it will most certainly NOT have a lot of Column-moistening issues either. There is a LOT of frigid arctic air for the system to work with and the CAD is trending COLDER than models were able to grasp. I believe SF did mention something about the Ice Line possibly being too far NORTH LOL..........

If the snow begins early I may well have to forget church tomorrow morning.

Folks we have very, very, very frigid ground AND ROADS here in N VA; the snow will stick from the very beginning and blow around. It will be powdery and it will pile up. Lows in N VA will be in the low/mid teens overnight; we are already down to 17 degrees here. Winds are transporting MORE cold air down on north winds at 10 to 13 mph with gusts to near 18 mph.

The snow will stick. IF you get freezing rain DON'T drive and stay inside.

This is going to be a good snow for VA; watch out in NC as you could get more snow and ice.......there are indications that SC could have more ice than previously trended. Yep this one needs to be watched closely. NWS has just changed our forecast in Woodbridge for Monday from freezing drizzle, to snow.

Get those shovels ready folks. It's nearly time to dig snow, and nearly time for my very first snowy jebwalk!!! :) :)

Thank you very much jpp!!! :) I hope you get good snow amounts too!! :)

I am praying very hard for more qpf and more snow than predicted and for more and much colder CAD too. I simply am unable to get enough of that cool arctic air and I am eternally greedy for heavy snow!!!!!!

I would love a low tonight of 7 degrees and a high temp tomorrow of 15, together with higher qpf's over Woodbridge and Potomac Mills Mall. I am dying for the snow to get plowed and piled up in 25-foot high mountains!!! I was jebwalking there earlier tonight and I counted 4 pieces of prime earth-moving equipment; the Mall folks are not playing around, they are clearly expecting MUCHO amounts of snow with this and I hope that we get it!!!!!

All I ever wanted in my whole life was 36 inches of snow and all that plowed snow to be piled up for me to go out on endless jebwalks to savor all the snow!!!!!

Temps are cooling nicely tonight.............We are down to 16 degrees with a dewpoint of 4 degrees and refreshing North winds effortlessly transporting more cool bracing arctic air at 6 to 12 mph, with gusts to 16 mph! That's a right coolish breeze out there!!!

120am Sun Jan 25 2004..................................

It's currently 120am and 16 degrees with 3 degree dewpoints. We have steady N winds at 5 to 10 mph with a few gusts to 16 mph.

Looks like our overnight low will be about 10 to 13 degrees. I am hoping for a low of 12 and a high of 17.

This radar shows the storm developing and moving ENE. Later today will be a mess in the entire Mid Atlantic as moisture overruns the very cold arctic air at the surface. Snow, sleet and frzra will pile up in their respective regions over time.

This storm is increasing in areal coverage. Later this afternoon Virginia will be trying to deal with the wintry mess caused by this awesome storm.

This is Jeb in Dale City/Woodbridge, VA, reporting from the Jebcast Weatherplex where we are expecting a significant winter storm in only 12 hours' time. This will be my last transmission folks. Take care and stay warm. Good night everyone. Over and out.

Good morning. 13.6 degrees. NWS has changed our Monday and Tuesday forecast to winter precip and stated later shifts will need to focus on this as it may be headlines too!! They are expecting coastal low to develop and maybe be terciary. It is going to be very interesting for a while. I iwll report back in after church.
