Winter in Omaha

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Jan 25, 2004 11:40 am

Well... we started off the morning with some freezing rain and drizzle. That transitioned to ice pellets (sleet) around 8am. Then around 9am it transitioned into snow. So far total accumulation is 1 inch... bringing our seasonal total to 18.7

Yes, and I am so very happy I get to work today at a grocery store in the thick of it! :grr:

Well, I'll make it. I mean the NWS is saying "impossible travel" is expected. I am not looking forward to this, to say the least! :grr:

Sure hope my girl-friend does not have to work tonight; it is going to be hazardous.

I'm thinking about 6-7 inches by daybreak Monday, and possibly an additional inch or two by late afternoon when the precip. ceases.

Take care all throughout the midwest and Ohio Valley!

We definately lucked out of the fz precip. The FZRA we did get didn't add up to much... the sleet is a nice coating though.

I'm glad somebody is getting some snow close to me!!! A met in KC this morning put out a 2-5 forcast for tomorrow, but I really doubt it-we now have light drizzle and the ice has melted off the streets and pretty much off the sidewalks-we are stuck in the middle again!!! Not expecting any real winter weather for about 10 days in this area-some colder temps possibly Satrurday, but no real mention of snow!!!

It was Gary Amble on channel 5-he is a good met, but they were really over hyping the ice storm-telling people not to travel etc. when the ice was in the process of melting!! The GFs and Eta did show us with some snow for tomorrow and Tuesday, but us getting two storms on top of each other is extremely rare and since we are in a drought, I really don't see it happening-usually the second system will loose its moisture or take a totally different track!! Good luck with your snow-I hope you get a good dump!!! I'm looking ahead to about 2 weeks from now-there's not really any model guidence to tell me it will not snow and thus I can dream!!!

Ahhh... Gary Amble... I remember him. I met him once there at the KCTV5 studios during a storm spotter's meeting. He was there along with Katie Horner.

Oh yeah... 3" inches here now.
