Radar looks good but the cloud tops on satellite are clearly more enhanced to the west and northwest and south and sotheast of DC/central Md area with no bead drawn toward us.

Yep. I'm getting a little concerned about totals for DC. The case for decent totals:

Well Quantico is reporting three inches in under two hours. That seems suspect to me, but it looks like Staunton and other nearby areas have sene an inch/hr. Looks like a couple of areas with good dynamics in wva heading east, which could be real interesting if it holds up. Bitter cold and high ratios...

The case against:

Back edge of precip is getting close, already approaching ROA and things are just gettin' started. The delay looks like a delay only in onset, not termination.

I had predicted 5.4, I'm thinking more like 4 now...

But hey, it is finally snowing downtown, albeit uber-light....

the airmass is so dry over most of MD im surprized anything is hitting the ground. the leading edge of whats on radar isnt hitting the grount and will not until the column saturates.

this is very evident on the 22z sounding at Baltimore:

notice the spread between the actual temperate and the dewpoint throughout most of the column.
