Tri-State Forecast

#1 Postby Anonymous » Mon Jan 26, 2004 3:26 pm

"... A MAJOR WINTER STORM IS POSSIBLE FOR THE TRI-STATE AREA TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY...

THE TRI-STATE AREA WILL BE AFFECTED BY WINTER WEATHER FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF TIME FROM TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS BOUT OF WINTRY WEATHER WILL COME IN TWO PARTS... THE MOST SIGNIFICANT OF WHICH WILL AFFECT THE REGION TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY.

ROUND ONE WILL AFFECT THE REGION TONIGHT AND EARLY TUESDAY. THIS IS THE RESULT OF A STORM SYSTEM THAT IS CURRENTLY DELIVERING SNOW TO THE MID ATLANTIC AND GREAT LAKES REGIONS. THE NORTHWARD PROGRESS OF THE PRECIPITATION WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL BE SLOWED BY THE COLD AND DRY AIRMASS OVER AND TO THE NORTH OF OUR REGION. SOME VERY LIGHT SNOW WILL FALL ACROSS THE REG ION... ESPECIALLY IN AND AROUND THE NEW YORK/NEW JERSEY METRO AREA... BUT ONLY AN INCH OR LESS OF ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED. SOME SLEET MAY MIX IN WITH THE SNOW AT TIMES ON TUESDAY.

AS A MUCH STRONGER UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHES THE EAST COAST ON TUESDAY... A MORE SIGNIFICANT COASTAL STORM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP JUST TO OUR SOUTHEAST. THIS COASTAL LOW WILL MOVE NORTHEAST TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. AS A RESULT... SNOW WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY LIKELY AS TUESDAY WEARS ON... BUT MAY AGAIN MIX WITH SLEET NEAR THE COAST. THE PRECIPITATION WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY TUESDAY NIGHT. ENOUGH COLD AIR SHOULD WORK INTO THE SYSTEM TUESDAY NIGHT TO TURN ALL THE PRECIPITATION OVER TO JUST SNOW... EVEN AT THE COAST. SNOW WILL TAPER OFF AND END WEDNESDAY MORNING.

AT THIS TIME... THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL FROM TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY ACROSS THE TRI-STATE AREA WITH AMOUNTS OF 6 OR MORE INCHES POSSIBLE. WINTER STORM WATCHES COULD BE ISSUED LATER TODAY IF IT BECOMES MORE APPARENT THAT HEAVY SNOWS WILL OCCUR...."

this is from th NWS. I was swatching TWC and Gineta Johns(probably spelled her name wrong) said that there will be sig. accumulations in NYC PHY and the NJ Shore. I think the Tr-State is NY,NJ,PA or something like that. And yes, I will never complain on this board again

1evans,

The "Tri-State area" usually refers to NJ, NY and CT.

Colin - so what happened to your "at least 10 inches"? As I said in that thread, be wary of shifts in the models. It is possible that this run is bogus. But it is equally possible it has the right idea and is the way things are now trending.
