Winter Weather Summary
POSTED: January 29, 2004 7:30 a.m.

Alberta Clipper Streaks Snow across Midwest

A Alberta Clipper type of storm system will track southeastward across the Midwest, bringing a swath of snow from Iowa in the west to West Virginia in the east. The snow showers across southeastern Iowa, northeastern Missouri, Illinois, the southern two-thirds of Indiana, southern Ohio, northeastern Kentucky into southwestern Pennsylvania, western Maryland, West Virginia and southwestern Virginia today and tonight will accumulate 1-3 inches. Roads will be snow covered and icy in spots.

Lingering lake-effect snow across eastern upper Michigan, northern lower Michigan, southern lower Michigan, southwestern upstate New York and central upstate New York today will accumulate an additional 1-3 inches across most of these areas. Strong winds will cause snow to blow and drift in open areas. Roads will be snow covered and icy in spots. The snow off the eastern end of Lake Ontario across cental upstate New York will persist through tonight into Friday and accumulate at least another 3-6 inches with up to a fresh foot of snow north of Syracuse and south of Watertown. The heavy snow will combine with blowing and drifting snow across central upstate New York to make roads snowpacked and icy with travel slow and difficult.

In the West, a powerful Pacific storm will inundate the northwestern United States with copious amounts of moisture, resulting in heavy rain and heavy mountain snow across western Washington and Oregon today and tonight. Heavy snow in the Cascades of Washington and Oregon will accumulate 1-3 feet. Snow levels in the Washington Cascades will be at 4,000 feet today but then lower to 3,000 feet tonight. Roads will be snowpacked and icy. Travel restrictions will be in place, and long delays are likely. Snow will be heavy at times in the Blue Mountains of Oregon above 4,000 feet and in northern Rockies of Idaho and Montana above 3,000 feet today and tonight. The snow in these mountains will accumulate at least 3-6 inches with up to a foot of snow above 6,000 feet. Snow across northeastern Nevada, north-central Utah, western Wyoming, northern Montana and in the mountains of north-central Colorado and south-central Wyoming and across western North Dakota into central South Dakota will accumulate at least 1-3 inches with up to 6 inches in northwestern Wyoming.

Our local mets are saying a dusting to an inch here in South Western, WV--do you think we will get more than what they are calling for?
