Re: Colder and colder the trends goes...
Nice discussion, Stormsfury. I like the trends, because this way, NC may enjoy some winter weather, maybe even some snow.
I am also thankful for each and every day of cool weather here in N VA as I look at the snow cover and enjoy the deep blue shadows on the snowpack surface. That snow cover is so precious!! I love each day of it, knowing the inevitable pattern change will one day bring me highs in the 50s and a drenching rainstorm.
Yep each day I enjoy the snow, and I am very, very glad that the temps are trending colder so that perhaps the Monday/Tuesday event will not be all plain rain, but instead a snow/sleet/freezing rain mix, which would gladden my heart so very much!!

I will be very, very happy with this Monday-Tuesday system if all it brings me is a couple inches of snow then sleet and a generous helping of freezing rain. I have discovered something: I love ice on top of the snow!!!

I really would not mind a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of solid ice on top of the snow. I love to spend hours with my steel construction shovel, chipping through severe ice and snow on my driveway, slipping and sliding as I do so, and nearly falling in the process!

I love winter with my whole heart, mind, soul and strength. I have been 150% converted to Winter!!!

Sure it is really sweet to have an all-snow event; but I am very thankful that N VA will not have to deal with an all-rain event washing away all our hard-won snow so quickly!!! We have only been savoring it for five short days!!! Yeah Buddy, that Ice is a LOT of Fun!!! Bring IT!! Bring IT!!
-ICE MAN JEB!!! Give me Severe Winter Storms, or Give Me Death!!

Stormsfury/others, Why did North Carolina get so warm today despite the cold front passage? Here in DC, we remained in the 20's, Richmond got up to about 33, and even the Tidewater remained the 30's. Yet, down the road in RDU, they got to at least 52. I thought the cold front already went through NC. It sure is cold here in DC.

The front is crossing sometime this evening and we are supposed to be 20 tonight and upper 30s tomorrow. Channel 5 here in Raleigh just said that the High is going to be transient and that even if it starts out that it will move off and the secondary low forming around Texas is going to move east of the Apps. up into the Great Lakes. Thus pulling up warm at the surface and turning everything to rain. Fishel is always really conservative but I sure hope this plays out, I can't afford to miss work and school anymore.

The best CAA lags behind the actual cold front.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CHARLESTON SC
855 PM EST FRI JAN 30 2004
.PUBLIC...SFC OBS SHOW FRONT PUSHING SOUTH THROUGH NC AT THIS TIME.
LOOK FOR WINDS TO GRADUALLY VEER AS THE NIGHT PROGRESSES...BECOMING
NORTH BY SUNRISE. WILL DROP SPEEDS TO 5-10 KT BASED ON CURRENT OBS
FROM ACROSS THE CWA. THE PARTLY CLOUDY FORECAST WILL HANDLE THE
THIN CIRRUS DECK THAT IS CURRENTLY OVERHEAD. SOME BONE CHILLING
COLD HEADED ACROSS THE APPALACHIANS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WITH
PLENTY OF SNOW COVER OVER THE MIDWEST AND OHIO VALLEYS...SFC HIGH
WILL KEEP MOST OF ITS ARCTIC CHARACTERISTICS. WITH CURRENT TEMPS
BELOW ZERO NEARLY TO THE OHIO RIVER...THE AIRMASS DEFINITELY HAS THE
POTENTIAL TO BRING SOME VERY COLD TEMPS OUR WAY WHEN WEDGE SETS UP
SUN AND MON.
