IRBIL, Iraq — Two homicide bombers struck the offices of both U.S.-backed Kurdish parties in near-simultaneous attacks Sunday as hundreds of Iraqis gathered to celebrate a Muslim holiday. At least 56 people were killed and more than 235 were wounded, officials said.
Death toll could hit 140.

OK, the Kurdish political core has been attacked...I'd imagine the Shi'ites are next on the list, then expect concerted attacks on members of the interim Governing Council. Note that Sunnis are NOT being targeted...the tiny minority that was loyal to Saddam and the Ba'ath Party, yet I think even they are not immune.
The effect will be tantamount to a civil war, each against the other. THIS is what happens when a colonial Government (in this case the former British Empire) draws artificial lines of demarcation which ignores local allegiances, customs, religious convictions, etc.
