Call me dense but....

#1 Postby stormraiser » Tue Feb 03, 2004 8:49 pm

how the heck can they declare Kerry to have MO with 3% of the vote counted? I mean, what if he loses most of the other 97% of the precincts?

I asked that same thing last week in the NH primaries. It is ridiculous

They did it in the Presidential Election as well. It's totally ridiculous!

Actually they're pretty close in most cases. :-) They use exit polls to find out how people voted. Once in a while they get surprised but not often...

As far as Missouri goes, please remember that Kerry's support is coming from Democratic stalwarts...based primarily within St. Louis, St. Louis County and Kansas City.

It will be the OTHER 151 counties Kerry has to worry about come November...and they are showing themselves BUSH people. :D

Yeah, Bill, I realized it was probably the, um, Urban areas that were the Democrat strongholds

This was basically my response to Blizzard's mention of the New Hampshire Primary last week. There isn't just looking at the percent reporting in those early stages of the ballot counting.

It is also true that the areas that haven't been counted are being figured in beforehand in a sense and added into the data already in.

So, I agree to a point when there the percentage reporting is below 30% or so, it does make us somewhat wonder why they even announce the winner right at the top of the hour... when the polls and caucuses closed (at least on Fox News Channel). :)

There's competition between the networks to be the first to "call" it.

Maybe its fixed. I hope Kerry becomes the Presidantial democrat nominee. Because then I would know for sure that Bush would win Re-Election in 04!!!

Sure they want to be the first to call it, but they would like to be correct, too. The results are generally correct... when the data is too close to call, they certainly don't call it right away. :)
