more tornado warnings

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Thu Feb 05, 2004 2:53 pm

A tornado watch is in effect until 5 PM CST for the New Orleans area point north and east througb the Gulfport, Jackson, and Merdian area. Just west of Merdian, a tornadic thunderstorm was indicated by doppler radar. Until 2 PM CST, tornado warnings are in effect for northern jasper and Newton Counties. This is a doppler indicated tornado 6 miles west of Montrose as of 1:05 PM CST or about 9 miles southwest of Newton moving northeast at 40 mph. Newton is in the path of this possible tornado.

Move to the lowest floor or your home or business and stay away from windows. If you have a basement, take shelter immediately in the basement until the all clear is given. The main threat with this broken line of severe thunderstorms is damaging winds over 70 mph, and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain could cause flooding problems also.
