Just stepped outside again and things are beginning to get nasty... a solid layer of sleet pellets frozen in the ZR covering the steps, driveway, sidewalks, and all. And to think the ETA would have us see another 3/4" or more before we get above freezing...

Yeah it's really treacherous out there with the sleet and ice accumulations.
I'm beginning to think that a jebwalk isn't such a great idea after all.............

10pm in Woodbridge........................

Its 28 degrees with 26 dewpoint and light sleet. The sleet is piling up. Since we conveniently have an ice layer, when you try to walk on it, the sleet balls roll under your foot, greatly reducing the friction coefficient between your shoe sole and the ground thus enabling you to slide effortlessly over the icy surface lol.

This is NO night for a jebwalk!!!

1050pm......................................

The temperature is 28 degrees, DP is 27. Winds east at 4mph, pressure 30.42 and falling. Steady sleet continues; we have picked up a third of an inch of sleet so far. I would not be surprised to see at least a half-inch of combined sleet/ice accretion from this overnight; we may even see the sleet/ice total accretion approach the three-quarters mark before heavy plain rain begins near 8am Friday and proceeds to dump about 2 inches of rain on N VA throughout the day.

5:50 PM

Temp: 30F
Moderate Freezing Rain

We've picked up at least a quarter inch of ice overnight and it's a solid accumulation on everything, including sidewalks, driveways, and untreated roads. However, presumably because of their erroneous decision to close Tuesday for what turned out to be rain, most schools in the area are on a 2-HOUR DELAY! This means that after closing a few days ago due to a 2-hour period of ice followed by rain, we will now be heading out to school 2 hours late in some of the nastiest ice we've had since at least Dec 14 2002, possibly earlier.

IF they get a clue and cancel schools soon I will be going outside to take pics later this morning. If not, I'm going to be spending my morning doing the homework I didn't do last night .

What are they thinking? A 2 hr. delay? I went outside and it's slippery as anything. I even put salt last night on my driveway, and it's still slippery. I am also at 30*F and still seeing moderate Freezeing rain. Montgomery/Fairfax county said they will re-asses later on in the morning around 7...and I hope Howard, and evreyone else does as well.

Absolutely agreed, this is one of the worst decisions by the public school systems I've ever seen. EVERYTHING is about their image with the parents and this proves it! The main reason we get closed is because of hype and people talking about it -- Isabel, for example, where we were closed for two days when conditions were only bad for about a 6-hour period overnight Thursday. Not to mention the decision on Tuesday morning. Now, they are hedging on the morning of one of the worst ice storms in over a year, almost definitely because of what happened Tuesday -- had Tuesday not happened, I'm sure everything would've been closed.

Schools around here are closing very quickly...which they always do. Not sure what is going on down there...hope they make the right decision and don't risk the lives of all these kids. If your school doesn't close, just don't go IMO.

I totally agree.

Carrol county just announced they will reasses at 7:30, and Frederick County just announced they will CLOSE instead of having the two hour delay. Hopefully this starts a trend.

Oh, and I just went outside on my deck, to look again, and there were Icicles stuck to the top of the door.

At least Howard mentions re-assesing!!

" Howard County Public Schools will open 2 hours late today, February 6. No a.m.
kindergarten. This decision will be re-evaluated as the morning progresses."
