What is your best guess for western NC over the next 2 weeks

#1 Postby Aimless » Fri Feb 06, 2004 10:10 am

With my finger poised over the "submit reservation" button for a quick ski trip in NC mountains in 10 days.... I am overwhelmed with a fear that this freezing rain will still be a factor. Any advice, guesses, warnings, ouija board readings, rock -sissors-paper results, or ( better yet) knowledgeable predictions of the snow conditions over the next 10 days?

Hope the Capt' is right!
"Feb. 5, 2004 — Once again NOAA’s various forecast models show a continuation of a pattern that favors the onslaught of Arctic air into many parts of the country in the next two weeks. In fact, the latest NOAA Climate Prediction Center 6-to-10 day forecast shows despite the reprieve from severe cold in the East in recent days, most of the country will be back in the ice box again, with below-normal temperatures forecast to blanket nearly the entire nation from coast-to-coast during February 10-14. And, it looks like much of the country will remain locked in frigid air past mid-month, as the February 12-18 forecast shows more of the same"

By the time you get there it will be much safer. That is of course unless there is another storm...

go ahead and get your bags packed...A significant upslope event looks likely for Ski Country in NC on Saturday. Then, maybe another shot at wintry weather middle of next week.
