The death penalty or life in prison for Joseph Smith?
What penalty you favor for this guy who killed that 11 year old girl in Sarasota?
I favor the death penalty because someone who kills a child doesn't deserve to live any longer.

May be an unpopular opinion, but I'll have to go with life w/out parole. Killing the killer doesn't really solve anything, it's just "revenge," which the government has no business seeking. Locking this man up for life will remove the danger to society, and that is all that matters IMO. I am kind of disgusted when people say "too bad we can't torture them" ... seems pretty sick to me ... I hope they don't claim to be patriotic and hold that view. Yes, this man has done a horrific thing, but who knows what issues he has that may have caused it. There's certainly no excuse, but again, causing more pain and suffering for the criminal has no tangible positive results, it only fulfills the ideological need for revenge/punishment.
All that said, I feel terrible for the girl for what she may have gone through, and hope her family can recover with time.

Miss Mary wrote:I recently saw a segment on prisons and the 'social status' in them. Child molesters and those that murder children are at the very top of the list to be tortured first. If he doesn't get the death penalty, then his fellow prison inmates may just do the job for us.
Mary
Yes Mary I agree 100% with you.If the tribunals dont make the right justice then the inmates will.

Put him to death. That way, he'll never have the opportunity to do it again. Perhaps if "death row" really meant death row, there wouldn't be quite so many repeat offenders out there.
Perhaps he did have some issues, but that is NO excuse for what he did. When I was a kid, my dad was an alcoholic. He was verbally and mentally abusive. However, that did NOT give me an excuse to go out and verbally, mentally or physically abuse anyone else. Thank God when my dad was 49 yrs old, he turned his life over to God and was a totally different person.

Without a doubt, death penalty.
brettjrob, I'm very patriotic and I don't want to see this evil scumbucket have a chance to lay a hand on another living soul, especially an innocent child. You say the government is seeking revenge, I say they're seeking justice. Too bad it will never bring back that sweet innocent little girl.
What's the point in keeping him alive? If we were tougher on criminals, this MONSTER wouldn't have been walking around in the first place. He should have been locked up when he tried to kidnap that 21 year old girl and bashed her over the head with a motorcycle helmet!! Instead, he walked with a slap on the wrist for attempted kidnapping. I would have agreed on prison for that, but instead he walked free then kidnapped and murdered an innocent child. Kill the maggot and change the laws!!
