While I'd like to personally strangle virus writters since I have to deal with our company's internet security, most of today's computer virus's are inconviences as opposed to real threats. People who don't have up to date anti-virus software and major ISP's that don't screen e-mail for virus's are the major cause for their spread. Hardly of the same stature as the murder of an innocent child.

Then call me a sad person.
Maybe because my work strictly involves computers and it is a fielkd that impacts many, but if an unknown virus ever were to get through to shut down say rsmas, hrd, and nhc (or other university and gov't agencies), or if someone accidently sent the access launch codes via hacking to military instillations, the consequencies would be far worse and many innocents would be affected. Not to mention the possible economic fall out, which would place millions in very rough situations.
Note: this is in no way saying murder is OK nor am I condoning it. Life in prison without any chance of parole should and must be the sentence if he is convicted and he MUST not receive any priveledges, except that to remian in his cell for 24 hours and eat nothing but stale bread and water for the rest of his life. The point of my origional post was to say it is not us who says who is going to fry in hell, when biblical evidence states otherwise (if it were up to humans, Mary Magdelene would never have been allowed to become the Lord's best friend)

I'd been telling our Exec staff that we were vulnerable for a year and then about 4 months ago we had a worm get through. We didn't lose any data but we must have lost hundreds of man-hours cleaning up the mess it left. After that they finally approved my requested upgrades LOL .
Derek, the problem I have with the "Life Sentances" is that they often aren't life and those that are include TV, weight rooms, law libraries, etc etc etc.

That is the problem that I also have. However, we need to reform the prisons to make them punishment. The thought of stale bread and remaining in the cell for 24 hours a day for the rest of ones life without any TV or books, just having to think about one has done should be enough to deter anything.

Well, if it HAS to be "life" MAKE it "life" w/o possibility of parole...especially in an Arizona-style tent prison in the middle of the desert.
NO weight rooms, law books, air conditioning, and no hope of escape...unless the con wants to die of dehydration, heat stroke, snake bites, scorpions, etc.
And the "meals"? Undyed bologna on white bread.
THAT, I could live with.

But would it help? I haven't heard any details about what all happened to Carlie Brucia, but I'm willing to guess there was probably sexual assault before he killed her. However, many child predators don't need or use the obvious body parts during an assault. And it surely wouldn't have stopped him from killing her. Maybe if they cut off his hands also.

100% agreed. I think life in prison with no parole under the conditions you have described is the perfect punishment.
