"And she'll promise you more
Than the Garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you
And laugh while you're bleedin'
But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself
'Cause she's always a woman to me..."

"(She's) Always a Woman", Billy Joel...given in fond remembrance of Celie.

...and a favorite of mine

Looking back, on the memory of,
The dance we shared, beneath the stars above,
For a moment, all the world was right,
How could I have known, that you'd ever say goodbye,

And now, I'm glad I didn't know,
The way it all would end, the way it all would go,
Our lives, are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd have had to miss, the dance.

"And if it gets too late
For me to wait
For you to find you love me
And tell me so.....

...it's ok....you don't need to say it..."

Very beautiful song, Fiona Apple's I'll Know

Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where i've become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home wake me up inside
wake me up inside
call my name and save me from the dark
bid my blood to run
before i come undone
save me from the nothing i've become

now that i know what i'm without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

wake me up inside
wake me up inside
call my name and save me from the dark
bid my blood to run
before i come undone
save me from the nothing i've become
bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead

all this time i can't believe i couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
i've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

It is very sad indeed.

"I started a joke that left the whole world laughing,
but I didn't see,
that the joke was on me"

"I Started a Joke" - the Bee Gees

I think that Robin Gibb has the best voice out of the three, though Barry is the most popular. Robin's voice shines in this song.

So here we are tonight,
you and me together
The storm outside, the fire is bright
And in your eyes I see
what's on my mind
You've got me wild
turned around inside
And then desire, see, is creeping
up heavy inside here
And know you feel the same way
I do now
Now let's make this an evening
Lovers for a night, lovers for tonight
Stay here with me, love, tonight
just for an evening
When we make
our passion pictures
You and me twist up
secret creatures
And we'll stay here
Tomorrow go back to being friends

"I Started a Joke" is one of my favs from them. They had so many good ones back then. I also liked "Love so Right", "Run to Me", "Words", "Nights on Broadway", "Fanny"....I could go on and on lol. Suffice it to say, once in a blue moon I'll drag out my old LP's. Of course, I get strange looks from my kids. Believe it or not, my 17 yr old kinda likes their music, tho.
You're right. Robin has a great voice. I think one reason Barry was so popular was the ladies thought he was a looker. One girl I went to school with was always talking about how handsome she thought Barry was LOL.
The last time I saw them on TV, he looked old. But then again, I guess he is getting on up there like me.
Funny how sometimes a song can bring back memories of childhood, isn't it? Sometimes when I drag the old albums out, I can't help but get a little sentimental and think about things that happened when I was a kid. OHHHH to be able to go back to that time (sometimes) when things were much more simple!!

Here's a corny oldie:

My name is Michael, I've got a nickel, I've got a nickel shiney and new. I'm gonna buy me all kinds of candy that's what I'm gonna do.....

(I think that song was written back in the days when you could get a couple of pieces of bubble gum for a nickel and get change back LOL)

Yeah, that one goes back to when I was about 12 or so.

And yet another one:

Shannon is gone I heard
She's drifted out to sea
She always loved to swim away.
Maybe she'll find an island with a shady tree
just like the one in our backyard....

Took me a long time to realize that one was about a dog :)

And one for bfez:

New Orleans ladies. A flare for life, love and laughter. Them Creole babies. They strut and sway from dusk till dawn and they run just like a river. A little wave(?) will last forever. All the way, from Burbon street to (I can't spell the next word)____, they shashay by (I need to get huked on funiks cause my spelin is terabal.....

That one reminds me of going to summer school in the summer of '78. I was going to be smart and graduate high school a yr early so I could finish college a yr early....I finished high school a yr early, but wish I'd finished college a yr early. I waited till after I was married and had a daughter before finishing. LOL.
(probably got some of those wrong since I haven't heard it in a while)

Another one I haven't heard in a LONG time...John Denver's Calypso

"Ay, Calypso
The places you've been to
The things that you've shown us
The stories you tell
Ay, Calypso,
I sing to your spirit
The men who have known you
And served you so well..."

The "sea chanty" rhythm, silently bespeaking times of hard men weighing anchor in tall ships...ah, it gibs th' Captain pause, Arrgghh!

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul...
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how --
Perhaps they'll listen now.

One of my favorite lines is from a Garth Brooks song:

Some of God's greatest gifts
are unaswered prayers.

How about Dan Fogelberg

There's a light in the depths
Of your darkness
There's a calm at the eye
Of every storm.
There's a light in the depths
Of your darkness.

Let is shine
Oh, let it shine
Let is shine
Oh, let it shine
Let is shine
Oh, let it shine.

Let it Shine

Timnms - All of the Bee Gees old songs are great. Yes, Barry was the one all of the girls went ga-ga over!

Bill - I love John Denver and Calypso is a beautiful song. Another one of my favorites of his is "Poems, Prayers & Promises" and also "Matthew".

Steve - "Vincent" is so beautiful. Actually, the American Pie album is great, though VERY depressing.

Here's another good one -

"Summer breeze, makes me feel fine,
Blowin' through the jasmine in my mind..."

"Summer Breeze" Seals & Croft

Every now and then soft as breath upon my skin
I feel you come back again
And it’s like you haven’t been gone a moment from my side
Like the tears were never cried
Like the hands of time are holding you and me
And with all my heart I’m sure we’re closer than we ever were
I don’t have to hear or see, I’ve got all the proof I need
There are more than angels watching over me
I believe, I believe

That when you die your life goes on
It doesn’t end here when you’re gone
Every soul is filled with light
It never ends and if I’m right
Our love can even reach across eternity
I believe, I believe

Forever, you’re a part of me
Forever, in the heart of me
And I’ll hold you even longer if I can
The people who don’t see the most
Say that I believe in ghosts
And if that makes me crazy, then I am
’cause I believe

There are more than angels watching over me
I believe, I believe

...and this one by Bob Carlisle

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer.
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair.
"Walk beside the pony
daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny,
daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong,
I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning,
And butterfly kisses at night.
