Shannon's Letter: EVERYONE READ!

#1 Postby wx247 » Sat Feb 07, 2004 1:53 pm

Hey ya'll! I got a letter from Shannon (pojo) today! :)

Dear S2K Buddies,

Current Assessment: 31 Jan.

Push-ups: 23 (2 min)
Sit-ups: 55 (2 min)
Run: 16.17 (2 miles)

Run has been the greatest improvement! Adjustment has been rather easy except for inspections - that's another story. I'm not a clean freak nor a perfectionist, but I am trying to develop that skill. There is a total of 57 girls in the flight. WWIII has broken out a few times, but thankfully the dorm chief has stopped the action. No blood has been shed, but verbal arguments are sometimes a high priority.

We march with our brother flight quite frequently. Those are the guys across the hall. We also have 2 cousin flights. Us, along with 3 male flights arrived on the same day. I will be starting my second week of training although I have been here for about 3 weeks. The first week was zero week.

"Babies" graduation is currently scheduled for March 5th. I will try my hardest to graduate on that day! I don't want to get recycled!

I'll keep working at everything above my ability and I'll be fine. Keep me in your prayers as I find more motivation to get thru BMT.

Your buddy,
Shannon aka: Pojo

WX---> 50-60º day
30-40º night

Garrett, thanks so much for sharing this letter.
She sounds terrific. I can't imagine that she would get "recycled". She excels in everything she does. Give her ((Hugs)) from us when you talk with her.

Good deal! I'm glad to hear she's doing well! I remember those days of Air Force BMT -- only a few years ago. Luckily she went during the winter. I was in San Antonio in July and August. Needless to say is was HOT. Anyway, thanks for passing on her letter and once again I'm glad of her success!

Tell Pojo we're all behind her! I expect that 2 mile time to come down to 15.5 ;-)

Tell Shannon that "being recycled" is nothing to be ashamed about...it merely gives her more time to "get it right", and even then, she may end up graduating in an "Honor Flight"...which may happen anyway.

Either way, she should "hang in there"...she's gonna "make it".

I found that I had to "scale back" in running...my mile time was 5 min. 13 seconds (not quite Olympic standard, but far better than most of the OCS candidates), while the AF standard was considerably slower...1 1/2 miles in 12 1/2 minutes.

And, at that time, the AF was into aerobics over standard "push ups, pull ups, crunches" etc. training...they were far more interested in what one had "upstairs" than "buff city".

The most important part of her letter was found "between the lines." She obviously has her stuff together and is doing just fine, as we all know she would. Still, a tough road ahead of her.

When I did my time at Ft. Leonard Wood outside of Rolla MO back in 1969, it was summertime and muggy. I was concerned about the "recycle" but when I put together my best effort in the last couple weeks, I made it through bringing a big grin to my drill sergeant (and me, too).

I was one of the few draftees who had a college degree, so he just loved playing with me!

Still, made it through in 8 fun-filled weeks. Just like Shannon will surely do.
