Time out.

Arctic outbreak? Large ern winter storm?

I thought Winter 2003-04 was pronounced dead...yet again. ;)

Per an earlier discussion on the topic, it seems that roughly 7-14 days after winter is declared dead, it roars back to life. Maybe, I'll have to start using this contrarian index in the December-March timeframe to help predict major winter weather events. ;)

If you are a snow lover like me that lives in N VA only 5 miles west of the Potomac River in a LOWLAND region, it was easy to think we northern Virginians were out of luck after that Behemoth 2-inch PLUS rainmaker that we endured only a few days ago. For details on the horrifically heavy plain rain, please see this page.

It would be nice to see a nice snow here this winter. Remember the last snow we actually experienced here was only a weakening s/w which was weakening AND trying to move forward over a COLD/DRY arctic CAD dome of air which REALLY ate away at whatever snow we were able to eke out of that weak system..........

Yeah, it would be nice to see a decent 12 to 15 inch snow here in N VA, even if it must be followed by a rain w/50s and 60s only a few days later.........that would be bittersweet but tolerable.

That is why all thru Jan I agonized over getting a lot of snow then..........because I have been here in N VA all too long (30 years) and I know all too well that N VA does get fairly heavy snows in Feb/early March BUT the Caveat: Those snows are often followed by heavy rainstorms PLUS mild 50s and 60s only days later.

Winter will actually be not over in Arlington VA until the snow/ice melts off my yard and patio (and does not refreeze at night).

However, the odds of any SECS hitting me to add to the totals are diminishing. I agree that NE has much better odds for a hit during this month.

Why would you quit posting just because someone disagrees with what you say? Or have I been hornswaggled by everyone here? ??

Personally I think everyone is welcome to post their opinion here, whether I or anyone else agrees with it. Just be ready to take the heat!!!!

Yeah we let OtherHD the snow grinch post and I just give him a hard time cause he's keeping the snow away from SE Texas.

Don't let what others say keep you from posting. All opinions are welcome - that's what makes this a discussion board.

I agree 100 percent with Don that winter is not over for a long shot. But I disagree with the calls for a very snowey febuarey for Philly on South word.Philly North word A very snowey month is diffentey a real possableys. The problem as HM has been stateing for a while now is the the MJO is now fully in place.Any PNA rige until trough the 20-25 will not be able to get going in part of the MJO wet phase.Even if we do get an negative NAO block. It would likey ack like a rige and be ineffected with a none Postive PNA rige.So the next few storms would likey be inland tracks and then jump likey giving the Northeast winter storm threats but Philly south.Mostey rain events. But after Febuarey 25th is when the MJO sould start to weakend and if we can get the 50/50 and a strong negative NAO back in place then everything is a go for a possable historect March winter storm for the east coast. So we will see how it all turns out.Again I'm not neassery saying that Flguys and Dons calls for reather snowey Febuarey is wrong from Philly South. But giving the pattern now I would argure that call for further North word. However March could be when Philly south gets there snowey month this winter.Going to be interisting to see.

i'm not too sure exactly what i'm reading here, but i don't think FLguy's call was for an exceptionally snowy February anywhere. his call has been for a historic march nor'easter, as far as i know.
