AMMAN - The cold front, which affected the country in the past three days, will start receding today (Friday) with no rainfall expected until Wednesday.
According to the National Forecasting Center (NFC), the cold front, which accompanied a depression centered over Cyprus, started moving towards Iraq, bringing more stable weather conditions to the Kingdom.
Temperatures will remain low today, reaching a maximum of 9C and a minimum of 3C, and skies cloudy, with a slight chance for scattered showers, especially in the southern parts of the Kingdom, said NFC Director General Abdul Halim Abu Hazim.
Also there is a possibility for fog formation today, with southwesterly moderate winds.
On Saturday, the temperatures will rise to a maximum of 12C and a minimum of 4C. Weather conditions will continue to be cloudy, but no rainfall is expected. Winds will continue to be southwesterly.
As the work week begins, sunny and warm weather with temperatures rising above the average of 13C and reaching a maximum of 16C on Sunday and 17C on Monday is expected. Winds on both days will shift to southeasterly.
According to Abdul Halim, a new cold front accompanying another depression centered over Cyprus is expected to start affecting the country on Wednesday bringing rainfall next weekend.
According to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the rainfall since the beginning of winter has increased water storage in the country's nine major dams to 151 million cubic meters (mcm). This amounts to nearly 69.7 per cent of the dams' total storage capacity of 217mcm.
The percentage was less than 48 per cent during the same period last year.
Welcome rains in Jordan last week!
