WINTER STORM WATCH!

#1 Postby TexasStooge » Fri Feb 13, 2004 10:10 am

BOSQUE TX-COMANCHE TX-DALLAS TX-DELTA TX-ELLIS TX-ERATH TX-
HAMILTON TX-HENDERSON TX-HILL TX-HOOD TX-HOPKINS TX-HUNT TX-
JOHNSON TX-KAUFMAN TX-MILLS TX-NAVARRO TX-RAINS TX-ROCKWALL TX-
SOMERVELL TX-TARRANT TX-VAN ZANDT TX-

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT TONIGHT AND SATURDAY...

FOR TONIGHT...A WINTRY MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW WILL OCCUR GENERALLY
ALONG AND NORTH OF A GOLDTHWAITE...HILLSBORO ...ATHENS LINE. SOUTH OF
THIS LINE...A MIXTURE OF RAIN... FREEZING RAIN...AND SLEET IS
EXPECTED. A CHANGEOVER OF PRECIPITATION TO ALL SNOW SHOULD OCCUR BY
SATURDAY MORNING OVER THE WATCH AREA...BEFORE TAPERING OFF LATE IN
THE DAY SATURDAY. THOUGH SOME UNCERTAINTY STILL EXISTS ON FINAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS...A GENERAL 1 TO 2 INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLY BY
SATURDAY EVENING ...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS TO 3 INCHES POSSIBLE
IN SPOTS.

MAKE SURE THAT YOUR GASOLINE TANK IS FULL BEFORE YOUR TRIP. ALSO
CHECK ANTIFREEZE LEVELS IN YOUR RADIATOR. CONSIDER TAKING A WINTER
STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU...INCLUDING SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...
BOOSTER CABLES...FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...A BAG OF SAND OR CAT LITTER...
BLANKETS AND EXTRA CLOTHING...WATER...A FIRST AID KIT...OR ANYTHING
ELSE THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME STRANDED.

A WINTER STORM WATCH IS ISSUED WHEN SEVERE WINTER WEATHER IS
POSSIBLE, BUT NOT IMMINENT. AT THE TIME, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR
SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND/OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS. FUTURE DRIVING AND WALKING
CONDITIONS MAY BECOME HAZARDOUS, SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO MONITOR THE
LATEST FORECASTS.

I like the comment about taking tire chains. Yeah, like anybody in the South buys tire chains, just in case. ;)

I know that you Northern people think it's funny that we make such a BIG deal about snow and ice here in N. Texas, but hey 1 to 3 inches of that stuff closes everything around here :) besides when your yearly snow total is 2 in. or less a few flakes falling gets everyone excited. :)

This is the south, not the midwest. We rarely see snow close to home so it is a big deal.

Sorry... I didn't mean to come across as brash. It is just funny that 1-3" is a Winter Storm Watch. I understand totally. The people in the Great Lakes region think we are nuts when we get 6-8" and call it a snow storm. I just had to laugh. Please accept my apologies.

Personally, I would be very happy to see a 1 to 3 inch snowfall. Most of the precip that has fallen in the last few weeks has been rain around here.

Good luck with your snow down in TX! 8-)
