Here's a quick report of last night's action from Pitt County. It starting spitting sleet mixing in with the rain in Greenville around 10:15 pm. Within 10 minutes it had changed over to all sleet, and approx. 1/4 to 1/2 inch accumulated in a very short time. The sleet diminshed and almost stopped, and then some light snow started mixing in with the sleet. This continued for 30 minutes or so, then shifted over to all small flake snow. Around midnight it switched to beautiful, large flake snow, and this continued until approx 2:30 am. Around 2-3 inches total (including the sleet) accumulated, and it was a very wet snow.
I drove home to Ayden around 3 am, and it was clear there was less snowfall in Ayden only 10 miles S of Greenville. I live another 5 miles S of Ayden, and under trees there was no snow cover at all, and you could see grass through the snow, maybe 1" accumulation. Outside my house this afternoon, the road has already cleared itself off.
