I haven't decided if it is because we are lazy or because we live in one of the top ten most miserable places to drive (according to the survey released today), but regardless I have found that ease by which we can vote by mail in the upcoming election seems to be a good thing.
Well in advance of the election, you get information sent to you by US Mail on how to get your ballot. You also get information on where to vote in person. You ALSO get a booklet that lists all the candidates, all the propositions, and the pros and cons of each...presented as fairly as possible in both English and Spanish. Again, mind you, this is several weeks before the election.
You return a post card requesting a ballot and it is sent to you.
Kathy and I have ours already. Then, you simply need to complete the ballot and return it before or on election day. You can even deposit it in a ballot box.
It does require a signature and the ballots must be mailed in the ballot envelopes with a specific barcode on it. You do need to place a stamp on it.
BUT...the truth is it becomes much easier to be both informed and familiar with the issues before voting AND it takes away the excuse of not having time or being too much trouble. It really can't get easier.
We couldn't do this in Illinois...only in the form of an early absentee ballot. But nothing as simple as this where they reach out to you in so many ways.
The times I went to the voting booth here required waiting in lines and having a tough time parking. This seems a reasonable alternative.
Haven't really seen any information on voter fraud as a result...but, as always, it would be possible to do if someone wanted to take that risk.
Anyone else have an early vote-by-mail system as easy as this one here in Maricopa County, Arizona?
